We spent 13 days in Southeast Asia with our adult daughter, which included a wonderful cruise on the Mekong Navigator. The ship was fantastic. It’s design in French Colonial and was impeccable. We had a Vista Suite, which was one of the simpler suites, but still better than premium suites on other ships.
A key to this ship is it was all inclusive and they meant it. Unlike other “all inclusive” travel we’ve had before, all the meals, plus local beer and quality wine, were all included as were all the excursions.
While on board we found out that this was the first sailing under Lotus. Though the ship has always been owned by Lotus, it had been contracted by Uniworld, but now sails as a Lotus Cruise ship. I’m not sure how the staff could have been better than the crew we had. Our wait staff were All pleasant. All attentive. We celebrated my wife’s birthday on board. That morning I asked our cruise director if we could get something special. That evening there was a gourmet chocolate, made from scratch by the kitchen staff. It didn’t just look good; it was a delightful cake.
In our cabin, the room was always taken care of, beer and soft drinks always in the fridge, and you only asked once for something and the rest of the trip it was there…extra towels, blanket, and a choice of four different kinds of pillow. We had people on board from the USA, Australia, Germany, Italy, South Korea and India. Ages from 23-75.
Do we recommend the Lotus Cruses and the Mekong Navigator…absolutely!

We had such a wonderful time on the LAN Diep (CF Mekong Luxury River Cruise). It was the trip of a lifetime.
The staff was excellent: friendly and professional.
The food was excellent.
The tours were excellent.
Lidy was amazing. So knowledgeable. She always went the extra mile to make things wonderful.
Narott was very good too. He was especially knowledgeable about the Buddhist temples that we went to.
Bao was amazing too. He was everything special you would want in a tour guide. We loved having him guide us on the Mekong and in SAigon.
It was absolutely amazing having our own private guide (and sometimes a driver). We felt like celebrities!
A special mention of the Cu Chi tunnels - they should be on everyone’s list. They are definitely worth the trip.
Thanks again. I will be sure to recommend your cruise ship to others.

We boarded Ama Waterways' ship, the Amadara, at My Tho, Vietnam for an 8 day cruise upstream on the Mekong. It was possibly the perfect cruise experience. The excursions and local guides provided valuable information on local culture and history. And the onboard experience was exceptional - attentive, smiling crew; nicely-appointed stateroom with comfy bed and good shower; beautiful lounge and sun deck; and scrumptious meals featuring local and western foods. Even the weather cooperated during our early November cruise; hot but little rain.

A group of eight friends sailed from Can Tho to Cai Be and we loved every minute.
Our Bassac boat was elegantly furnished, comfortable and spacious.
The meals were beautifully presented and delicious.
It was pure joy to cruise the Mekong and its tributaries, see sunset and dawn, observe life on the river bank and it was oh so relaxing.
The afternoon excursion on land with optional walking/cycling was informative and fun.
The ride in small boats paddled by local villagers was fantastic and sailing through Cai Be floating market to a family owned rice paper making shop was great.
The very best thing, however, was our guide Trang. She is quite adorable, brilliant at her job, knowledgeable, informative, delightful to be with, courteous and charming. Trang is ably supported by the other crew members who went out of their way to make this a truly memorable time.
Our thanks also go to Mr Lan in the office for the extra value he added to our experience.

We travelled on the RV Amalotus with APT. The cruise was delightful, ship was very well maintained, clean and the staff and tour guides first class. Your cabins were very roomy and well set out. Meals were 5 star all the time. One thing that stands out, the ships staff look after you 24/7, before you start a tour you are well briefed the night before and any other information is presented in your daily news letter, (just like a sea cruise). One tip, if you can't handle very hot and humid weather think twice in going.

BASSAC THREE
SO MUCH nicer and more personal than the boats on Halong Bay.
Tasteful all wood junk with room for 24 although we only had 13: a Britsh party of 5, an Italian and a German couple and us.
Cabins are all air conditioned with hot water, showers and WC en suite, smellies and towels provided. All meals are served on the open quarter deck and were a fixed menu but really really good and the drinks list was not bad value given that you're a captive market.
Board at 11.30, lunch at 12.30. Run ashore to see a local village at 3.30 with horticultural field trip. Biblical rain all afternoon...crocs for your feet and rain poinchos provided by Bassac.
Excellent dinner again on the quarter deck.
Full marks to the captain for avoiding several collisions - the Mekong waterways adopt the same driving etiquette as the scooters in Saigon! At anchor overnight so reasonably comfortable but bulkheads are wafer thin so also take ear plugs.
Good breakfast and then off on a launch to see the floating markets and a rice noodle factory - the former being great fun and the latter much more interesting than it sounds.
The boat manager was a charming young lady whose name was unpronouceable but who was absolutely delightful and very knowledgable and whose command of English would shame some Brits.
TAKE PLENTY OF INSECT REPELLANT WITH AT LEAST 50% DEET IF YOU DON'T WANT TO BE EATEN ALIVE.
Highly recommended.

My husband and I did 1 night, 2 days from Can Tho to Cai Be and we loved this trip.
Our Bassac boat was so much nicer than I expected, on suite with shower, double bed and the communal areas were lovely.
We dont eat fish, and our guide made sure that our food was veggie or meat, the food was stunningly beautiful and presented like a top restaurant.
The Mekong sunset and sun rise were beautiful and being on the river was chilled after the chaos of Vietnam.
The afternoon excursion on land with optional walking/cycling was like being in the jungle, and seeing how people live was great, they offer fruits and snacks, try them all.
The ride in small boats paddled by local villagers was really fun and sailing through Cai Be floating market to a family owned rice paper making place was fun, watch out for snakes and scorpions in the gift shop, try the snacks they make, fascinating to see them all made fresh.
The people onboard were all lovely, and couldn't do enough for you, brilliant.
Top tip - wear decent shoes, I wore sandals, trainers would have been more sensible for this trip.

Unlike another earlier reviewer, we are currently having a totally enjoyable experience since this cruise started earlier today. The crew are wonderful , food is good( lunch included coconut prawns, calamari, catfish and beef stir fry) and the vessel is beautiful and totally different experience to the the rubbish- strewn Halong Bay, full of too many brightly lit and often noisy cruise boats.
This is a working, living waterway- it is NOT a "Heart of Darkness " jungle experience. It is also not a flora, fauna or wildlife experience.
We have just seen a glorious sunset before we have cocktails and dinner( soup, spring rolls,pork/ sea bass , banana and chocolate pancakes) 😋
Yes accommodation is smaller than some other cruise boats but it is beautifully fitted out in wood. Perfectly adequate bathroom for 1 night.Cabins have a/c and comfortable double or single beds.
Just had a 6 km cycle around a local village guided by a local lady and fruit and tea at a local house.
For us this is about seeing life on the waterways of the delta and the ways that locals live their lives and interact with the delta.
We will have a wonderful 22 hours on Bassic 2 and enjoy the whole experience - priceless !

What a beautiful boat the Bassac 3 is! Made of wood, beautifully detailed, and very comfortable. Cabins are tiny but attractive and have a little ensuite bathroom with loo, shower and sink. Meals on board are excellent, you'll enjoy one breakfast, one lunch and one dinner. Prices for the onboard bar are reasonable. Staff are very pleasant and helpful, particularly the tour guide who accompanies excursions. Definitely a lovely way to see the Mekong Delta from the water.

Hi we are going in oct 2020 on the 8 night Lan Diep cruise. have been asked if we wanted upper cabin. Are there any past travellers who can say whether I should spend extra 600 per couple to do that Ta. Bronwyn.
Written 19 September 2019
We "missed" out on the upper cabins but discovered once on board there was not a lot if difference. We didn't spend a lot of time in the cabin and ours turned out to be closer to the restaurant and meeting places which suited us.

What is charged and the prices onboard?
What is the price for a can of beer?
Do they charge for excursions etc?
