This is one of the central monuments of the city. It has the madrassah on one side, the minaret on the central area and another building facing the madrassah. The sheer size is awesome. Those days, area or size never mattered. Today, it would be...More

The madrasah has 150 students and therefore access is restricted to the foyer, entered through the magnificent portal. Here you can take photos of the courtyard through the grille but little else.

There are few better photos in Bukhara than snapping this medressa in the early evening light. The tilework here is better than any I saw in Samarkand. Inside the building still acts as a place of education so be respectful when entering.

Like most of the public buildings of its time, the tile and mosaic work on the facade is intricate and beautiful.

A current day working Madrasah with students studying both the Koran and other subjects. Impressive architecture, stunningly colourful. Situated on a square opposite a mosque, close to the ancient Kalon Minaret and the trading Domes souvenir area. A must see.

This madrasah is one of the must see sights in Bukhara. The design, craftmanship and architectural splendor are impressive and well worth a visit. The tile and brick work is amazing.
