our first stop after crossing over from Laos.
from outside the temple look normal, busy with worshippers, etc.
but inside, the interior walls are covered with beautiful murals, one have to spend some time admiring all of them.

Beautiful temple close to the centre of Nong Khai. Well maintained grounds and building exteriors. The interior of the main temple is stunning, take some time to study the paintings on the walls.

A great and serene place. You can go here straight from Wat Arun (cross the river by boat). We must put off our shoes or sandals to see the main hall. For this is a holy place.

Attractive temple in the town center with amazing wall and ceiling art. Quite spacious, steps to climb.

This is a very famous temple in Nongkhai that every Thai visitors must visit when come to Nongkhai. The Buddha statue in the chapel, Luangpor Pra Sai, ages several centuries and believe to be very sacred and widely respected by Thais and Laos. A long history of the Buddha status is worth to read. Dress proper when entering temple.

This temple is the holiest place for anyone from Nong Khai and Thais are very impressed if you say you would like to visit.Can get very,very busy around festivals but temporary car parks are opened opposite the temple along the Phon Phisai / Nong Khai road.
The buddha image in the temple has a head of pure gold, the body is bronze and the head ornament is set with rubies. Due to the great number of miracles attributed to it, this royal temple is a must stop for any visiting Thais.
The buddha image housed at the temple was one of three similar statues made for each of the daughters of Lao King Setthathirat, and they were taken as bounty after King Rama I sacked Vientiane in 1778. The buddha statues were taken to the Mekong opposite Nong Khai where they were put on rafts. A storm sent one of the statues to the bottom of the river, where it remains today. It was never recovered because, according to one monk at the temple, the naga (which live in the river) wanted to keep it. The third statue, is at Wat Pathum Wanaram, next to Siam Paragon in Bangkok.The second statue was supposed to accompany it, but the cart carrying it broke down in Nong Khai and so this was taken as a sign that it wished to remain in Nong Khai.It remains here to this day.

I visited one day after the announcement that King Bhumibol had passed away, and the atmosphere was quite somber, with everyone dressed in black and lighting candles and incense in memory of the King.
The Wat is beautiful inside, with the painted walls depicting scenes of the Buddha's life merged with images from modern everyday life, and warnings about straying away from a spiritual path.
The central Buddha statue is one of 3 that came by rafts from Laos, belonging to 3 sisters. After a storm, one raft along with a statue went down, and the 3rd Buddha made its way to Bangkok. This story is also depicted on wall paintings.

It's the city temple with sacred Buddha statue "Luang Por Phra Sai". Making respect to the city statue, we sightseed this temple complex. The vicinity of temple was serene and relaxed.it's place for worship the lord of Buddha. It's the most important religious place of the city.

One of the most famous temple in Nong Khai, visited on Wed morning and yet there are still quite a lot of people inside praying. The main temple facade is great, the interiors have drawings that tell a story. Though I do not understand, but worth paying a respect to this temple while you are in Nong Khai definitely.
