We went in late February 2023. It was an abandoned area. No restaurant, no resort, no snorkeling as the waves were way too high & dangerous, very windy, & no where to hike unless you wanted to try to hike on rocks. There were several tourists there but most seemed disappointed at the lack of things to do. There were a few plastic chairs set up on a small trash-lined beach that people sat on. It wasn’t worth the taxi ride over or our time. The only cool part was seeing the big boulders but for us, it wasn’t worth it. Hope that helps someone :-)

I can see why this place attract people, the spot is super pretty, small hidden beach sorrounded by huge rocks, supposedly blue water and great snorkeling. The problem? The water is dirty, plastics and brown plaques floating around which put me off from even laying down my towel. Came at the same time with other curious tourists and we left immediately. Others didn't seem to bother at all and continued sunbathing on the beach, which again, is not free of pastic. Poor little island, what did we do.

Its a cute little spot that offers pretty good snorkeling! You don't have to swim deep into the ocean, you will be able to see beautiful fish swimming around as soon as you step in! The fish are very friendly and will come to you and swim around you. I recommend bringing snorkeling gear. The bay also asks for a donation, either money or buying a drink, and the drinks are way over prices. If you want people to donate and do so, don't rip off on the drinks! make them affordable instead.

This cute little beach is on the east side of the island. We walked from Saree Beach which is a steep 2 1/2 km but worth it once we got there. There were a few people but not too crowded and it is quite small. Some people mentioned in their comments being charged 100 baht To get on the beach but that didn’t happen when we were there. If you want to escape the busy sairee beach it’s a great little place to go and you can use a scooter to get there if you’re brave enough to go up and down those crazy Hills.

Highly recommend Hin Wong bay on any trip to Koh Tao, much better than the busy Nang Yuan island spots and equally as good as Mango Bay (depending on wind/wave direction)

We snorkeled here from an around island boat trip. Oh my god, I have never seen so many fish in my entire life ( I traveled quite a bit). There are a huge group of fish that live there. When I first saw them, I thought there were sea weeds that float in the water. Our guide said that these fish live in this bay, they do not move out. It is amazing to see this in real. Don't miss this opportunity.

As nice and beautiful as this bay may normally be, it got totally destroyed during a flood or storm.

the bar is closed and there is garbage lying everywhere on the beach and in the sea, which makes snorkelling impossible.

i assume that everything will be restored and cleaned up, but maybe not in the next couple of days/weeks.

i can't say anything about the sea life, as we weren't able to snorkel

Hin Wong Bay was one of my favorite spots to snorkel on Ko Tao. I have only been on one snorkel vacation. Hin Wong Bay was amazing. I loved snorkeling in and out of the boulders. There was tons of marine life tucked away down under and around the boulders. I was dropped by my boat out in the middle of the bay. I never went over to the main land.

Snorkeling Locations (ratings out of 10):
2 of 10 - Ang Thong marine park (West of Samui)
4 of 10 - June Juea beach (Southern Ko Tao)
5 of 10 - Shark bay (South East Ko Tao)
10 of 10 - Ao Leuk (East Ko Tao)
10 of 10 - Hin Wong Bay (East Ko Tao)
10 of 10 - Light House Bay (North East Ko Tao)
7 of 10 - Nang Yuan off beach (North of Ko Tao)

I visited Hin Wong Bay as part of a round Ko Tao snorkel tour for 750 thb +100 thb for the entrance fee to Nang Yuan island.

Based on other TA reviews and some experiences we read in the TA forum, we decided to save the extortionate taxi fare from Sairee Beach (we don't do scooters) and walk to Hin Wong Bay. Big mistake. Reviews stated that this was a 30-40 min. walk and only about 10 min of it uphill. It was 1 hour (we're not in bad shape), and 80% of it was uphill. We were sure that we weren't climbing that mountain we saw straight ahead - but we did, and it was awful - worse than the streets of San Francisco.
That said, the place is idyllic once you arrive - small restaurant and separate bar on a tiny beach. It wasn't crowded mid-morning, but began to pick up after lunch. We had a delicious and super cheap Thai lunch overlooking the water.
The snorkeling is awesome if you don't follow the crowd. Most will head out from the beach and go to the left. We did this 2nd, and it wasn't great - some trash in the water and not as nice. Instead, go out from the beach and head to the right. The further you swim (15 minutes or more), the better it will get. The snorkeling to the right is outstanding - we swam through some cool canyons and saw tons of tropical fish. There are said to be some sharks and turtles here, but we didn't see any.
If you do take a taxi here or make the same mistake we did and walk, there is a way to get back to town. The bartender at the little beach bar also doubles as a motorbike taxi. He took us one at a time back to Sairee Beach for super cheap.
