    Disspointing but good snorkeling
The island itself is beautiful but we were very disappointed that we saw so much rubbish on parts of this tiny island. You pay 250 bhat to go onto the island, and they take your plastic water bottles away but on the sand there is still plastic, rope and some glass, and they give you straws at the restaurant. We felt that with the fee, they could have people picking up the litter to keep this place beautiful. Good snorkling.

Beautiful, relaxing and nice for snorkelling!
The island is beautiful, a real pearl, a sure to do experience in the checklist of things to do in Koh Tao. Less than 15 min from the main island with the boat. Of course it’s a touristic island destination but is the perfect place where to spend 2-3 hours.

    Just ok
Fabulous viewpoint for the famous photo. Lovely beach linking islands, very unique. Snorkeling just ok, most coral was dead due to a huge storm. So many tourists and we went at high tide so waded thigh deep accross the beach so be aware of this. Also, boats did not go to the island if you started later that 10am so be aware of your tour or what time you plan to visit. Ask around first. Too many people and a long queue to the photopoints.

    Needs protection
It’s a shame to many visitors allowed, of course I realise I’m one! The view point was a continuous snake of tourists, so many in fact some on our tour had to turn back! The beach although beautiful is becoming an ecological disaster! Trampled Corel, disgusting lack of respect from the people who visit. Leaving discarded food and drink detritus where they sat, conch shells overflowing with spliff and fag butts. I hope the owners take steps to protect this natural environment and be a little less motivated by money.

Do your research to avoid the crowds
Having read various websites stating they let you on the island before 10am. I can confirm they do not! I organised a long tail from Sairee Beach leaving at 09:00 with the hope of getting to the viewpoint without the hoards. Arrived on the island at 09:20 to be told I had to wait until 10:00 to enter the island. Thankfully I was allowed to stand by the payment counter in the shade as 40 minutes stood on the pier would have finished me off. At 09:45 the large Lomprayah ferry arrived and all of the people disembarked to walk straight through the ticket point and onto the island. When I asked the attendant on the ticket desk, I was told they are part of a prearranged tour and are allowed on early. As soon as the time reached 10:00 to the second I was allowed onto the island. I went straight to the viewpoint and thankfully I didn’t pass anyone walking up and I had around 10 minutes on my own before people started to appear. My advice to anyone making their way by long tail boat is to arrive at around 09:35 and wait it out. When allowed in, head straight up to the viewpoint to take your pictures then you may miss the crowds. Just to note. The signs on the island all say it closes at 15:00 (instead of 17:00 that I saw online) just to bear in mind if going in the afternoon.

Extremely crowded. Starting with the boat, which should have been direct, but ended up with an hour’s wait on an unshaded pier in Koh Phangan to change boats. Very chaotic, no information given. Air conditioning broken. Arrival area in Koh Tao completely blocked with people, unorganized. Rip off taxi fares controlled my the local mafia. Traffic jams! Hotels are overpriced and mediocre.
Diving boats are just as overcrowded. On ours, people smoked anytime, everywhere, adding to the constant diesel fumes.
To save money and time, the operators leave the boat engines running non stop, to power the compressor to fill the air cylinders. So very loud.
A fair amount of the diesel exhaust gets ingested into the diving air compressor intake (along with cigarette smoke). On 2 dives we experienced CO poisoning symptoms.
Koh Tao is not cheap! Prices are on western levels. But the service is nowhere near what you pay for.
We will definitely go somewhere quieter next time.

We came here as part of an excursion at around 11am.
Firstly I went to use the toilets which were disgusting and some broken.
Then we went to snorkel on the beach. Was VERY busy and didn’t see much fish etc. luckily we were on a snorkelling trip so later went to much better places.
After snorkelling, we left ourselves an hour to go to the viewpoint. Our mistake was to not do this first! The line was very long and we didn’t want to miss our boat so had to give up. People coming down said they waited 45 minutes and were closer than us to begin with.
Leaving when it’s busy was also difficult. Lots of boats and you have to hop over them to get to yours. I can’t imagine doing that with children or if you were older and struggled.
We were gutted to miss the view point so decided to go back again a few days later. This time we got a taxi boat and arrived at 10am. We were able to get to the top and only wait 10 minutes or so until it was our turn. If you want to see the viewpoint without waited ages, I would definitely get a taxi boat there EARLY! We also noticed all the beach chairs were gone when we came back down so the earlier, the better.
The view point was beautiful. You of course you want a picture and so does everyone else and this can cause a bit of stress at the top. It is SO DANGEROUS and people don’t mind just forcing their way onto the rocks where people are taking pictures and then too many people are on the rocks.
It is annoying waiting for someone to take so many pictures. There are two rocks and while we waited the 10 minutes, a group of people were on one of the rocks. They were still there when we could go on the second rock and we’re STILL there when we left! Halfway up they have a drinks place and I think it would be good to have someone there to guide people on and off. That could make it so much safer!
If I ever went again, I would try and go even earlier! They say it doesn’t open till 10 but so many people were there when we arrived at 10 so not sure how that works?
Also, wear proper shoes going up to the viewpoint. Lots of people in flipflops etc nearly slipping!

This was obviously a nice place to visit at some stage. But I would tend to suggest greed and lack of respect from the owners / operators has ruined what is touted as one of the best snorkelling spots in the world.
