Lanta Old Town is a small village on Ko Lanta's East Coast in Krabi Province. Many years ago, Ko Lanta's Old Town acted as the port and commercial center for the island and provided safe harbor for Arabic and Chinese trading vessels sailing between the larger ports of Phuket, Penang and Singapore. Today, Old Town is the district capital; it has a post office, police station, Buddhist temple, Chinese temple and the island's hospital as well as a long pier.

We visited the old town with our motorbikes yesterday, there are some interesting views and some different shops compared to the rest of the island

The shops lack any variety, so not really a shopping destination, but it's worth a trip over to see the old town. The town is a little ramshackle but not without its charm.

Gorgeous place, quiet....locally made souvenirs, friendly people and so calm. We passed elephants on the way and saw so much more of local koh lanta than anywhere else. Just beautiful.

a small town with characteristic houses and nice views on the sea between the houses. Many small but good restaurants.

There are some shops with good rates comparing to other parts of the country, and some restaurants and cafes at cheaper rates. A fresh fruit shake was 40 here, same thing is around 70 to 120 in other areas and cities.

Great place to stay and being away from too many tourists. We rented a house at the sea front. We originally planed to stay 2 nights and ended up 6 nights. Very quiet place to stay.

Old town is a sightseeing and shopping place. There is not much else to tell about. How ever ride from klong khong beach to old town was nice. There is an restaurant on top of an hill and view from the balcony is great.

Lanta old town has a real charm to it. Lots of shopping and restaurants to keep you occupied, but a more low key experience than elsewhere on the island.

If you hire a motorbike to tour the island then it's probably worthwhile calling on but not worth a special trip. One side of the street has relatively expensive restaurants built on stilts over the sea, the other has more value for money establishments. The shops are pretty much all tourist souvenir type places.
