This is a pier we have used many times over the years and you always see something new. There is a feeling of excitement as you approach on one of the wonderful fairies and getting access to this fantastically relaxed island.
The pier goes from calm to chaotic in seconds, but things just work. You need to pay a small tax to go through to the other side where you will be greeted by numerous rickshaw and taxi drivers.
The street around it is full of bars, restaurants and tourist shops and is a hive of activity itself.
From the calm of the sea to coming out of the chaos on the other side everything just happens the way it should somehow.

Everyone arrives here and most go to Long Beach. The normal price is 100 Baht per person and even that is high. The touts will try for 200 to 300 Baht but stick to your guns and pay 100 each... They all claim to be related but it is quite funny listening to their lies. I got robbed at the Royal Lanta Resort on Long Beach from the key safe so be careful with your valuables!!!!!

we visited Saladin Pier due to the reports we recieved about the Fish restaurants running along the Pier. we were not disappointed, it is a bustelling resort area with a wonderful Vibe. And all the seafood restaurants seem to be well attended with many happy customers. I would definately recommend a visit to the Pier if you are anywhere in the vicinity

This pier is small but well organized. By arrival people asked us of we already had tickets & then told is where to go to. After getting our boat tickets & stickers they told us to sit and that they would pick us up to go to the Marina pier. This happened & the boats were on time.

This is where the ferry boats arrive and depart and it can be a busy place. There was construction work taking place when we were there. A few small bars and refreshment areas. Rest rooms are very basic. Best to head straight to town or to your accommodation. When departing don't arrive too early as there is nothing to do here.

I was here a few years ago and it was much clearer which way to go what to do when you’re off the boat/ferry. Currently under construction I understand they’d like to expand which is a good idea but it’s all in a very confusing way. One line to queue for the boat leaving and no space for boats to park. We had to walk across 3 other boats to get off ours.

Got off the ferry and found out that the parking etc is a 200 metre walk away, due to construction taking place. It allows embarking/disembarking simultaneously. So it does what it is meant to do. Remember your 10baht landing fee.

The Pier is a busy area for ferries and is part of the main commercial town Saladan (or Sala Dan) for Koh Lanta Yai (located on the northern tip of the island). There is also Koh Lanta Old Town on the southeast side of the island. The town of Saladan is not the most attractive but it is a good place to stock up with groceries and visit various markets. And while there you can check out tours from the island and visit a seafood restaurant. Bit more interesting around the Pier and river.
There is a good sheltered market with many clothing stalls in case you need any extra things for your holiday. Also other practical things like hats, shoes, waterproof bags, etc. And of course many types of souvenirs. There are other markets which occur only at particular times. One evening I came across a small stretch of cheap eats food stalls which was a nice experience. Although a bigger town, I would still suggest organising things like tourist sim phone cards etc. in Bangkok (if you can) before travelling south to the Krabi region. Some things are easier done there with more choices and better deals than in Krabi, Ao Nang or Saladan.

Come here to catch a ferry, organise excursions, do food shopping, eat at night markets, have a drink, arrange a dive etc. Saladan has it all.

Staff at check in for the Satun Pakbara speed boat friendly, efficient and helpful. Pleasant little bar/restaurant with shade. Money changer also available. Toilets should be upgraded.
