Located next to King Naresuan Monument, this active temple is located a little outside of Ayutthaya center. Perhaps this is also the reason why less people show up here.
I can imagine that the view from the Chedi over the surroundings must be great, unfortunately lack of time.
Wonder what this Chedi looked like before getting his white paint...

This temple has a big white stupa, which you can get up the stairs and walk around the whole stupa. From up there you also have a nice view around.End of the year the stupa was already a little bit dirty, but still a nice view. The temple lays outside north of the city, so for visiting you need almost a car or a tuk tuk. Because it’s a little bit outside it’s maybe not the ideal temple for a one day trip, but if you have enough time i would recommend a visit here.

Wat Phu Khao Tong. It was built to celebrate the victory of King Naresuan against Burmese. The lower base are in Burmese style while the higher one are in Ayutthaya style. You'll see some cocks statues at the enterance, it's the King favorite animal.

Nice temple which you can climb and offers an impressive view. We went here at sunset and especially then it was very nice.

Well worth the drive there.

There is a small temple next to it worth entering also.

A lot of people would prefer "The head in the tree" but i think the site is also very nice. It is a ancient Temple with a lot of history. Do try to read up before your visit or try to get a tour guide.

Take note on the Hot season!!

It is from one of the 14 ruins of Ayutthaya Historic Park.
When you visit this park you will see all of them together with this Wat...
It looks not as interesting as the others because it is not ornamented as the others but this one has a very good view from the top.
When you look around from this one, you have a better understanding of the entire site plan, landscaping and layout.

To get here, you need some kind of transport, bicycle will do.
Peacefully situated among rice paddies, this huge slightly leaning chedi is glittering in the sunshine.
Take some kind of sun protection, e.g. an umbrella.

I didnt know this temple is an old temple until I have read the reviews here (which is long after my visit to this Golden Mount)!! During the visit, I cursed my guide in my heart for wasting my time to see this temple. I love historical places and really hate it when they try to change the condition of historic items with new paint and new tiles like what they did with this temple. It totally lost it charms!!
My only pleasure when climbing the stairs to the top is that I could hear the call for Muslim prayers (Zohor Adhan) from the surrounding mosques and saw the minarets of some of the mosques in the local village. Also the view of the Paddy fields and the kampongs was also interesting from top of the temple.
Unlike other temples, there is no entrance fees for this attraction.

Wat Phu Khao Thong is by far our favourite temple in Thailand. It’s so beautiful, and best part: there was almost nobody. It was was so peaceful. We went there by bicycle, it’s a bit further than most temples but so worth it.

You still have to walk but not all the way. This is worth visiting and the shopping and food at the end is great.
