    Holy Temple
An ancient temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, this is one of the holiest places for Hindus and one of the 12 Jyotirlingas. There is a separate entrance for taking bath in the 22 wells. Cellphones are not permitted; hence you cannot take pictures of the long corridoors and the striking sculpture and architecture. The temple interiors are well maintained but the neighbouring alleys are dirty

    JYOTHIRLINGA N DHAAM
This Jyotirlinga temple has four entry gates in each direction ( east is considered main ).This temple has the longest corridor in india. It is suggested to take bath at Agneetheertham sea (I just sprinkled some sea water on myself instead of taking a dip, which wasnt at all clean ) and then at 22 wells before having Jyotirlinga darshan . There are lockers available near the sea to keep mobiles, footwear and personal belongings. Please carry dry clothes to put on after taking holy bath. There are partitioned places to change clothes, no rooms are available inside temple for changing. One can opt for special fast Darshan by paying INR 200 per person. There are lots of hotels and lodges nearby for accommodation and food. [19:31, 27/09/2023] Hiten Lavingia: This Jyotirlinga has four entry gates in each direction ( east is considered main ). Must visit temple in Rameswaram
We sprinkled water at Agnee teertham. And from there we went straight to the temple. It was 9:40 in the morning. The queue was long for normal Darshan so we took quick Darshan. For quick Darshan, we payed 200 rs for each of the family members. And that’s it, we went straight to the Darshan. It is so beautiful inside. Camera and mobile phones were not allowed. Though no one was checking that but we were not allowed to take photos.

    Divine, Surreal, Memorable
We visited the temple early morning at 5:30. We had already tied up with a Pandit ji through our temple for a puja and has requested for special Darshana tickets. The queues were much shorter for the same and the extra money paid was well worth it. The temple entrance is a bit dirty and because it was raining, it was quite mucky as well. The shoe stand is outside the temple and one needs to walk a bit on the road before entering the temple itself. You’re transported to another world right from the moment you get inside. The long intricately carved colonnade lines the temple on all sides and is really beautiful. The painting on these statues is extremely pretty. The experience of the puja at the temple and the Darshana of the shivling was divine. I wish our government would promote this temple more so that many more people can visit it

As part of our Isha southern sojourn group trip, we had visited this place.
There are 22 wells!! each of them separated by around 2 feet to 6 feet. It is considered holy to get bathed with water of all the wells. There will be 3 to 4 people at each well carrying a small bucket tied to a rope who pull the water from the well and pour it on our head. It is understood that when krishna killed khamsa after the 22 theerta he was cleansed. So we can imagine how we will get cleansed.

We will get darshan of shiv ling and godess separately. But the decoration was very good.

Overall an amazing temple with great architecture and a wonderful experience.

Regards
Sharath

I had visited more than 5 times here, I really appreciate the Govt & Temple Management efforts for taking the Safety measures. They had kept contact less Sanitizer machine, Asking the pilgrims to maintain distancing while standing in the queue, Wear Masks. Temperature Checks, whatever possible they are doing. But few piligrims are not adhering to it, cant help.

Now closed all Pooja's & Bath well's due to covid, allowing only Darshan. There is Free, 100/- & 200/- special darshan tickets. It seems they may open after Jan'2021 but sure. Overall had a great darshan

The temple is one of the holiest of sites. Along with Badrinath ,Puri and Dwarka form the Char Dham . It is one of the 12 jyotirlings.
Along with it being a major Hindu pilgrim site ,it is an architectural Wonder..Legend has it that the main lingam in the sanctum sanctorum was built by Goddess SITA and installed by Lord Ram.The site of the temple has around 24 baths and gopurams ,wide corridors which are flanged by pillars with intricate work will leave you spell bound. There are around 1212 pillars.
The gate leading to sanctum sanctorum has a huge statue of Nandi and the darshan of the lingam is absolutely divine.
Fairly well organised ,had enough time for proper darshan.
Cameras are not allowed and for once I was glad.
With no electronic diversion,it was easier to take in and admire the magnificence of the temple.

This is no place to visit fly by night. Take your time and spend atleast a day or two to take in this grand temple and the nearby theerthams and temples. Don't miss the early morning ritual bath in 22 theerthams. Though it is crowded in mornings, you can pay Rs 260/person to by pass the lines which may be faster but a rip off if you really think about it. But again it is a tourist place where people make a living off of the temple.

The Ramnathswamy Temple is on of the revered Jyotirling temple and perhaps the best and grand amongst all other Jyotirling temples.
There are 21 fresh holy water wells inside the temple where devotees have a bath before darshan. The wells were closed and all bathing activity restricted because of Covid19 .
The early morning 5 am darshan is also must have to see the Sphatik Linga.
The grandeur is worth appreciating.
Photography inside the temple is not allowed.

Visited the famous Ramanatha temple. We reached Rameshwaran and shifted to JKR resort at Rameshwaran at approx. 18:00 hours straight from Madurai Airport. It takes approx. 3.5 hours from Madurai Airport straight to Rameshwaran on a Innova.

We met a priest at the Hotel who informed us that the temple was empty at that moment on Friday evening. We checked in, freshen up in a few minutes, wore traditional clothes and carried an extra set of clothes and rushed to the temple. We hired the same priest who we met at the hotel.

We rushed in as the temple closes around 20:30 hours or so. We went through the various kunds (naturual spring wells) and at each kund, a bucket of water was put on us. Wet Wet but very nice and traditional. Water of each kund tastes different. After get cleansed in 22 kunds (sorry if I made a mistake in the total, we changed our clothes in the temple, did a small archana and had a darhsan of the holy jyothir linga. This is the linga that Sita made from the sand while Hanuman had gone to Kailash to get a linga. It was divine. We passed through the 1000 pillar hall and were simply awestuck. After our darshan, we shifted back to the Hotel, JKR resort.

The resort was good and comfortable besides one problem. If you order ala carte you cannot eat at the restaurant and have to eat in the room. Strange rule !! Crazy !!

In the morning, after a good breakfast, we visited the Vibishan temple, Punch Mukhi Hanuman temple and Dhandoshi village. We then moved to Maduria (a good 4 hours drive by Innova).

Rameshwaran was sheer magic and worth a visit (200%). Two nights there are highly recommended.

Hotel was good but will like to give it a rating of 8 out of 10.

Rameshwaram being one of the char dhams attracts huge crowds all through the year.
There are 2 paid Darshan ₹100 and ₹200. The directions are not well marked. The queue is not orderly. The priests lead large groups out of turn. There is a risk of stampede at all times.
The temple is huge and unlike other temples we were just told not to use our cellphones but they were not deposited at the gate.
Though we washed our feet at the beach ( Agniteertham) at east gopuram we didn’t have the ritual bath at the 22 kunds.
Modest dressing is expected but sarees and mundu are not compulsory.

DONT go in the morning. It is tooo much crowed. GO after 3 -4 PM you can have a peaceful darshan. I went with family( 1 senior citizen + 1 kid). I wanted to avoid the crowd and my father is a senior citizen so I hired a priest from my Hotel. The person was good and explained me each and every step+history. I did not stand in any queue. But you can go by your own also.
My journey started with a holy dip in sea (Agneeteertham). Then went to temple where a separate entrance maintained for bathing in 22 wells.1 bucket of water will be poured on your head from each well. Then there is a dress change area. Once you are dry then go for Darshan. The Siva lingam is clearly visible. There are other two Siva lingam are also there except the Ramalingam (Please read the history).
I went with Priest so I did not stand in queue. But if you go alone expect a queue.

Special Note - Morning 4 am - 5 am there is a special darshan of Crystal Siva Linagam named "MANI DARSHAN". I tried but not succeeded because there are almost 500 people were standing infront of me from ight 2 AM.
