Although we got in late in the evening on a very cold day, the overall atmosphere in and around the temple was magical. Fortunately there were no long queues and we could go right in. The only issue was we could not feel our feet after 10 mins. Shoes and socks are not allowed inside and although they had coir... More

this place is one the holiest places in India. recently, the surrounding area of the complex has been upgraded. however , it was overcrowded and understandably not perfectly clean. be prepared to walk a lot,as the vehicles need to be parked at quite a distance from the complex. even, the rickshaws and auto- rickshaws drop you at around 10-15 min... Was blown away on our recent visit to the golden temple, Amritsar. After arriving in Delhi we took a local flight here for one night and what a contrast to the beggars of Delhi as people of all religions are fed free at the temple, the holiest shrine of sikhism. 40,000 people fed on weekdays. 100,000 on festival days made... If you are in Amritsar this is a must visit. It is stunning, takes you breathe away, Attached to the temple is the 'kitchen' where they make and supply 35,000 meals a day. It's amazing to watch the process of the naan bread and curry being prepared and made. Definitely recommend you visit this beautiful and tranquil place.

Not to be missed, a truly spiritual experience must be visited during the day and night as both experiences are different.

Best time to go is in the evening when this temple glows. Eating langar is a must post prayer is done. It always feels good if you can offer some service. Local market outside temple sells lot of things on reasonable rates. Jalainwala Bag is adjoining.
