As a full-time travel writer, I enjoy exploring popular tourist traps, along with finding local, hidden gems. Recently, I visited India for the first time and one of the cities that I explored was Amritsar. I wanted to see the Golden Temple along with other tourist attractions, but I was also very interested in finding cool, local places to sightsee, take photos and to eat.
One memorable early morning, I went on a fantastic bicycle tour with City on Pedals. Rishab and Michelle (the founders) were amazing! I learned so much about the history of Amritsar, visited some fantastic spots that I would have otherwise never seen, ate the most delicious street food and met so many small business owners (generation to generation businesses) that it was definitely worth sacrificing a little beauty sleep. Actually, I’m all about supporting locals and through this bike tour, this is possible; plus, you get to see more of the city in a short amount of time. And all the while you keep active while having fun.
This bike tour was one of the highlights of my trip to Amritsar and it totally made me fall in love with the city, it’s people, the Amritsari food, culture and especially the off-the-beaten path sites visited. I highly recommend it.
