    A divine experience, must do
An absolutely soul satisfying divine experience.. Words cannot describe the vibe, the aura of the place. It has to be experienced atleast once in your lifetime. You can spend hours just sitting in solitude with yourself, people move around, you can see everyone engaged in their own way of worship. Langar and Prasad are a must do. You can also do sewa. All in all, we felt absolutely peaceful

Incredibly impressive in so many ways
Visited on a busy Sunday. The place is impressive architecturally with a respectful attitude by the many visitors. The langar is huge and very well patronised by those seeking sustenance and the many volunteers. The chapati manufacturing machines were typical of the scale of activities. The “putting to bed” ceremony was worth seeing for its significance and ceremonials.

    Quite an enriching experience
Visited daily by thousands of people, this temple is definitely one of the most peaceful places I have visited. The aura and energy is indescribable. That pushes your limits to even wait for 3 hours in the queue for the darshan. I had an incredible amazing experience. The temple looks even more beautiful in night. The langar served at Golden Temple is one of it’s kind as it is the largest community kitchen serving free 50k-1lac fresh hot meals every day. I was glad I could try it and yes it was quite fulfilling.

    Amazing must see temple
Amazing place of worship to visit. Come early morning as it gets hot and very busy. A guide is useful to get the best out of the experience. The kitchens for providing langur are amazing and feed thousands each day.

    A beautiful place
A must. We went at around 11am. It wasn't too busy but there was already a long queue for the temple itself. We didn't join that queue to enter it as it was around 2 hours of waiting. We walked around the pool, bought prasad (helva) which around 20% gets donated to those going to the temple itself, and had a dip in the pool. We went up to the museum to see the paintings and learn about the history of the Sikh community. Tips: We took our own headscarves as walking along the street you get pestered for headwear a lot. We bought 2 karas (silver bands) not from the temple but a street vender and paid 150 rupees for 2. Maybe you could get something 'holier' from the temple complex for that. Go earlier than 11am to actually cross the walkway to the temple - the queue is long.

A sacred Temple and highest shrine of Sikhs
I went to the Swarn Mandir (as the Golden temple is called) at around 9.30 am with my wife and son. The lady at the Street shop outside the Temple asked us to purchase Handkerchiefs as you are not to expose your hair inside and said she will tie it on our heads too as a complimentary gesture if we buy.So we bought two hankies - as my wife was already having her chunri to cover her head.Early morning time is good for the visit as with naked feet your feet burn on the floors as you walk inside. This despite the fact that rubber and jute mats are spread in almost all areas where you walk . The Golden glow of Gold in the main temple Gumbaj makes this temple unique. It is also supposed to be the main religious centre of Sikhs and the Temple is spread over several acres with a holy big pond adorning the place. The temple has all amenities and volunteers (Kar sewaks) provide drinking water in corners to keep quench thirst on sultry days. There is a car parking area about 50 metres from the temple too. As there were very very long queues for the main sacred shrine darshan so we could not join which thing disappointed us . Possibly if we had come around 6 or 7 am we could have had a chance. The Golden Temple is magnificent and we could see Sikhs taking holy dips in the pond in a specific designated area towards the rear.Guards can be rude as we too experienced as when taking photos in the premises, the chunri of my wife slipped a bit and the guard insisted that we delete the pic from the mobile right in his presence as the head was visible. But otherwise the people positioned there were friendly and of amiable nature.Overall a good place thronged by thousand of devotees daily.

    Golden Temple by night
The temple by night was a visual delight. Returning after 20 years. A lot of rush , but spotlessly clean. Darshan was not possible on 13/08 ,but at 7 pm took a little over two hours. It was a memorable experience.

Allow 2-3 hours to soak up the atmosphere, participate and read the plaques.
Stunning architecture. Historically important plaques/memorials,in the walls by the gate into the Gurdwara. Visited early evening as part of small group tour, having only one evening in Amritsar. Not so busy in the evening as I assume main tourist crowds arrive daytime? Would have stayed far longer had schedule allowed . Felt very privilaged to participate in communal meal and visit the kitchens. Beautiful when darkness fell and lights came on

    Divine !!
Besise being of historical and spritual importance, this beautifult temple is the holiest site of Sikhism. The beauty of this temple is that people of all faith can visit it without any discrimination. The entire complex also includes Akal Takht, Clock Tower, Museum and Langar wher free vegetarian meals are proveded to everyone. When we reached in the afternoon, there was a big queue and very very hot. We did Parikrama (went on all four sides of temple) and took Karawa (prasad). One can feel the positive vibe inside the complex. It's really maintained very well.

    Extremely enlightening and spiritual
Mind blowing experience. Such an amazing and serene place, which made me feel good just to be human. It is a major centre for the Sikh religion, and besides that it is a beautiful structure anyway. You need to cover your head, and no shorts allowed. Unlike other reviewers, my experience was entirely cordial and polite. I did go in shorts, and the security guy at the entrance told me very politely that this was not allowed, and he went on to give me a solution - which was to borrow a garment from one of the footwear check in windows. Yes no footwear inside either. The place is enchanting. We went to the langar and were served beautiful food. Then a volunteer kindly showed us round the kitchen and behind the scenes, which was really interesting. Stayed till after dark and saw it all lit up. I must emphasise - everyone was extremely polite and helpful, there was no rudeness from security or anyone else (unlike other reviewers' reports). I will definitely come again

The Temple is one of the world’s greatest sites! It’s grand and imposing and generates reverence. The massive kitchen provides free meals to thousands almost round the clock.

This is a simply wonderful religious site that is well worth a visit. Note that you are required to wear (men) trousers and a long sleeved shirt. You must also cover your head before entering and remove shoes and socks. You then wash your hands and feet. I didn't queue up to enter the temple itself as queue times were over 2hrs, but I did get a look around the huge kitchens they have there that feed thousands of people every day. This is an important aspect of the Sikh religion.

The Golden Temple, also known as Sri Harmandir Sahib, is a sacred Sikh shrine located in Amritsar, India.

It's renowned for its stunning golden architecture, spiritual significance, and inclusive atmosphere. Visiting on a weekday afternoon offers a serene experience with fewer crowds, allowing visitors to soak in the tranquility and spirituality of the place.

However, weekends tend to be busier with increased foot traffic from pilgrims and tourists alike, which can result in longer wait times to enter the temple complex and participate in rituals. Regardless of the day, experiencing the Golden Temple is a truly memorable and enriching experience for all who visit.

No respect or organisation for sangat. In Sikh religion respect and service for sangat is meant to be top priority. I went yesterday crowd was huge, but langar system collapsed completely. If you have children they were suffocating waiting in queues, it was a stampede like situation. Some left there plates and went. For all the money they get in donations, I don't understand why they haven't upgraded there langar hall section as of yet. They also need to stop mass tourism here. I know about values etc but really for true sangat and faithful it's too much now.
