- Sanskriti SanghiNew Delhi, India23 contributionsCaptivating! My family and I watched the Kathakali Dance Fusion at Punarjani. The performance, a captivating and well-curated fusion of Bharatanatyam, Mohiniyattam, Kuchipudi, and Kathakali, was 60 mins long. The performance includes solo dances, duos, as well as ensemble dances. Each performer is a master of their craft and can truly command attention even alone on a stage. Through their expressions, they tell stories that we've read or heard about while growing up. Pro tip #1: if you go about an hour before the performance is to begin, you can watch the Kathakali performers paint their faces and don their costumes. The effort this entails will enrich the experience for you further and help you see what goes on behind a performance. Pro tip #2: There is not a significant price-difference between the seats at the front and those further behind. Get the seats towards the front; it will make you feel like the dancers are interacting with you. Pro tip #3: The dancers stay back after the curtain call and take pictures with the audience. Try to get on the stage earlier before it gets too crowded (suggestion, leave the performers appreciation in the form of money in the tip box if you enjoyed the show as we did). Must do in Munnar!Visited January 2023Written 30 January 2023

The Kathakali fusion performance at Punarjani was an extraordinary blend of traditional and contemporary artistry. The seamless integration of Kathakali's intricate storytelling and expressive movements with modern elements created a mesmerizing and unforgettable experience. The performers' dedication and skill brought a new dimension to this classical dance form, captivating the audience with their energy and passion. Punarjani's innovative approach to preserving cultural heritage while embracing innovation is commendable, making this fusion performance a must-see for both traditional art enthusiasts and those seeking a unique artistic encounter.

The show was amazing. It can be too loud at times. Also there are big stairs so please be careful. I went with my grandpas and they had difficulty going up and down the stairs.

Attended on 15-April-2023. The "Classical Fusion" was excellent. Enjoyed thoroughly.
The "Kalarippayattu" martial arts programme, coming after the Classical Fusion, was a bit of a let down. The skills of the performers were very impressive, beyond compare.
An alarming aspect: As far as we could see, there was only ONE passageway - both for entry and for exit. No precautions against fire was observed. No display signs, no other escape routes for the people in case of fire. (The performers DID play with fire, literally.) People could be crushed underfoot or choke if they have to use only those narrow steps to enter or exit. This should be looked into.

A truly mesmerising experience at the show. Beautifully performed dances by each and every artist, full of expressions. I thoroughly enjoyed the performances though I don't know malayalam language.

We attended the Punarjani fusion dance on 22 March (5-6pm) but couldn't able to enjoy the same due to poor seating arrangement without any fans in the back. The lack of ventilation in the small untidy room causes a claustrophobic atmosphere. They are extorting money by charging Rs. 500, Rs. 400, and Rs. 300 and provided just flat seat of wooden ply with sharp edges of wooden ply is causing pain in my legs. I advise not to visit to this place and rather attend the Kathakali dance at Kochi.

Definitely worth attending this program. It was a surreal experience for me. Especially the dance program in traditional arts. A lot of these may be threatened art forms for a lack of platform, popularity and audience. But it was fantastically presented. With a slight modern touch in lighting and music quality. I was happy to have been there.

We had a fun time. We first watched the dancers put on make up and their costumes- only four members of the audience elected to do this and in my opinion they missed out. The dance show was about an hour long and included a variety of short dances. The martial arts show was in a purpose built arena on a lower floor and was a varied mix of sword fighting and other martial arts. The shows were also excellent value- best seats for each show were around £6.
