The 'Taj Mahal of Munnar"- This church built in 1910 reminds us of the British era ..its culture and customs..The burial Tomb or 'Eleanor Isabel May' reminds us of the romantic tale of Munnar. Her young husband, the Manager of the then Finlay Tea Co. lost his lovely wife who had suffered from Cholera at the age of 23...

A must visit spot for every traveller who really wants to experience and learn the history of Munnar and its Culture...

Fine stone building that could have been in Scotland or elsewhere in the UK. This used to be an Anglican church (built in 1910 during British rule). After independence in 1947 it was handed over to the Church of South India (CSI) which is still a member of the worldwide Anglican Communion.

The church was open when I visited during a weekday. Visitors of all backgrounds are welcome.

This church is little more than 100 years old & its oldness can be very deeply felt - at least I could feel it. It is build in stone, is famous for its stained glass windows, inscribed brass plates, benches made with rosewood, chandelier with elaborate decorations. It gives an old world feel that I totally loved. Those who love art & architecture and history must visit this place.

Nothing really special about this church. Not very old, only some 100 years or so. Looks all like a typical English church, except that you have to take off your shoes before going inside, like in hindu temples. If you already saw many churches in Europe, you can easily skip this one.

Unlike most of the churches in Kerala this understated church, constructed of roughly hewn granite, is a reflection of an era long past. It looks like a small English church, inside the simple wooden roof and pews reflect its colonial character. The brass memorial plaques tell stories about former tea planters. Worth a visit if you're in the area.

Although we did not actually get to visit inside this church when walking around Munnar after our trek to Top Station, I was intrigued to see the 'triangle' of this church, the mosque and the temple standing so close together in the town centre.
Would that this coexistence of different religions might be the model across the whole world.

The church is definitely worth a visit, I spent quite some time reading through all the plaques bearing names of various donors, contributors, pastors, etc. who have left their mark in this place, over more than a century and a half. For me, this was the most exciting part of it - imagining how the lives of all these people must have look like, in the olden days, especially from a European's point of view and living in Munnar. The church itself is lovely, beautiful architecture, fitting of the epoch in which it was created.

I was having a busy day in Munnar as I was on a work trip. By chance while I was on a business visit, I cam across the Christ Church. Nestled on the hill and practically hidden by all the buildings that have come up all over Munnar, this place was a peek into the history of India (pre-independence). I spent an hour there just looking at all the plaques that were put up in dedication to a general or a lieutenant or a vicar. The church is small and cute and full of history. I just loved it. It was peaceful inside so much so that you would never know that there was busy street life all around. Wish I could have spent more time there. Will do so when I return to Munnar.
