This is the second time we went to Cotigao. As birders we were hoping to photograph a lot of new birds.

The first time we spent about 2-3 hours and and second time we stayed for 3 days at the close by at Natures harmony (which was our worst experience ever) anyways both times we barely saw 3-4 birds.

If you are a birder or a wildlife enthusiast then i suggest giving this place a miss.

I think the speeding vehicles in this santuary and the hotels which hosts parties till early morning contribute to no birds in the area.

its like travelling in a forest, but i didn't find it much, and i guess this place can be skipped if you don't have much time, mostly in wildlife sanctuary we want to see some animals, here you won't see much, just few... so i personally didn't like this much

Took a trip with a bird guide from Bogmalo (near airport) which wasn't cheap and in retrospect wasn't worth it. It involved a lengthy drive with just a couple of hours in the park. It is quite a nice forest with some big trees but most people go for the wildlife, unfortunately we saw only squirrels and monkeys. That would have been o.k. for us as we went primarily for birds, unfortunately they too are few and far between.
My advice, based on our experience is to give this park a miss and save your money.

Forest is good..a guided tour would be helpful if they can arrange.
The moment you pay the Entry fees and you are in, there is no one to guide you or help.
Thats kills the interest.
Some guards standing by with bored expressions on their faces, does made our enthusiasm depress.
Maybe will try again next time....and get a guide.

I went to Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuary. Here tree lovers can find a lot of leafy trees with the moist deciduous vegetation and today it is the only extensive area of lowland monsoon forests remaining in Goa. The forest has a lot of wild animals that remain hidden. It is great place to go.

The scenic view is good, greenery all over. But it is not a wildlife sanctuary at all. One can call it a mini zoo with very poor collection of some birds, deer and butterfly. No guide. Complete wastage of time.

This wild life sanctuary is in south of goa and a good place for birding also, here you have to walk several kilometres to reach watch tower and river area or can take bicycles or scooters.

We went to the Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuary about 8 in the morning, because we heard that the morning was the best time to visit. We went in an auto-rickshaw from Patnem. The last bit of the road was quite bumpy (we went to the treetops). The trip was approx. 23 kms one way. We saw some monkeys, lizards, birds and butterflies, but unfortunately not any big animals. Maybe you have to be even earlier to get to see them. Our rickshaw driver also picked and offered us some cashew-fruit, I would recommend trying that one if you get the chance. This is not a must-see if you are in Goa (there are other sanctuaries), but it's definitely worth the price, at least to see some jungle.

This nature reserve is only about half an hours drive from Palolem, and to get the best from your visit get there as early as you can. The only animal I saw was a Giant Indian Squirrel, but there were lots of colourful birds and butterflies around. A car or scooter is essential to explore the site, and the staff at the Visitor Centre were fairly helpful with maps etc. There is a scary observation hide, about 20m high up in a tree deep in the forest, and the climb up tests your nerve a bit. But the best views are further into the park if you follow the road through a village down to the river. I found some shade and sat by the this during the hottest part of the day, and saw kingfishers, herons, swallows, swifts, egrets and a Brown Shrike. The views along the way, of the mountains is pretty cool. You can get tea, soft drinks and limited snacks from the cafe back at the entrance. Not the greatest nature reserve Ive been too, but a good day away from the beach.

Been there in October. Good experience. You have to take permits from the Range Forest Office before entering the sanctuary. You can visit waterfall in Kuskem village 10kms from Forest Office. Monsoons are the only good time to visit the waterfall. It dries up in summers. Tree Top is another great place to visit. There's this tall watch tower in the deep forest. At a height of around 20mts from ground. Thrilling experience.
One can also visit Bela Lake and Bamonbuddo falls. But do expect much from these places.
Food and accommodation is available at Cotigao Forest Office. The rooms are well maintained and the staff is cooperative. Our stay at Cotigao was pleasant. One can also visit Palolem beach, which is located 15-20kms.
