About
The property is unique to Roatan. Just off the main road to a private beach area. This area is part of the Roatan Marine Park preserve. The reef system parallels the white sand beach of Sandy Bay The closiest swim to a underwater ecologial paradise teaming with tropical fish and corals. This area is a quiet tranquil area of Roatan without high end hotels and condos but close to the tourist meccas.

I stayed in Sandy Bay as places in WE were much more expensive. But the beach area was filthy, not a good place to lie out in the sun. Didnt like the restaurants here. Shared taxi drivers cheated me if I didn't have exact fare. Went to WE one day, didn't like the tourist crowd and the small beach.

The beach itself is stunning and beautiful although it does have sand flies. We rented an Airbnb that advertised as beach front and it was NOT. We actually inquired after another that said right in the beach and it was NOT. So be aware! They had pictures of the beach and the house and it looked like beach views. If it’s near Lawson Rock there is nothing there. No restaurants, nada. We moved to West End and couldn’t be happier.

We stayed on east Sandy Bay road, and part of the beach was well maintained by homeowners, and part was so littered with trash, it was totally disgusting. It's a protected marine area, but apparently beach trash is ok.

We came to West End to do some shopping and relax one afternoon after diving. We got local ice cream, some souvenirs, and a great day to sit on the beach that was very busy. There are some cool businesses to visit as well.

The view is awesome, the sand, the corals at swimming distance. You must take or rent in the place the snorkeling gear to see - with caution - the coral area.

Was here when we had a bad rainy day so I really missed the beauty of this beach-- Not a heavy used beach which I liked so you could actually relax on the beach if it wasn't raining.

I contacted Jensen and he was willing to drive us to Carambola Gardens and Sandy Bay for a snorkeling afternoon. You can swim out from the beach, about 100 yards or so, then snorkel along the reef and wind up down the beach several hundred yards later. It's a pretty long snorkel and one needs to be a good swimmer. There is lots of healthy coral and lots of fish. As you swim out, the coral gets very close to the surface so be careful. Jensen is a great guy and can drive you anywhere on Roatan. I would use him again anytime.

This was a great little residential area. We were able to walk to Bahia Beach Grill. And snorkel from our home. Loved this area.

Rent a private home. Have dinner at the local, small restaurants on the beach. Take a flashlight for you walk back after drinks or dinner.
If you need a crowd, there are boats for rent that will take you wherever you desire.
Enjoy most of all being among the locals! So friendly.
The beach area at West Bay is beautiful!

The reef is about 100 yards off shore all along Sandy Bay. You should be able to swim out to the reef no matter where you are staying. Any where along the reef will be good for snorkling. In many places the water is only 3-4 ft deep.

Dan is correct, there's not all inclusive hotels, most of them offer breakfast but lunch and dinner is on you.

i have read several contradicting reports on the beach at Sandy Bay. We are shortly staying in a beach house for 5 weeks across from Spookey Channel. It is advertised as being on a white sandy beach, Then I read that the sand is not white but course and muddy. Is it a very long beach? Is it really full of garbage and have cars that drive along the beach?
It is also advertised as an easy swim to snorkel at Spookey channel. did you have to walk far to restaurants ?
Thanks

Have not heard of Spooky Channel. Recently came back from a month at Sandy Bay. It is a long stretch of beach several miles. The sand is not beautiful. Very few people lie in it. Depending where you stay, there may be one or two or no restaurants to walk to.
