If you are visiting Elmina castle, stay for a bit and see fishermen life! It is interesting to observe local life. You can even buy fresh fish, if you have a place, where to cook it or ask at the hotel. Great experience!

Spend at least 30 minutes of your time in Elmina wandering among the people on the crowded quays, admire the strong wooden craft and the flags making them look like war canoes. And if you're lucky, see them set off to sea.

Green and hilly countryside in the background. A very picturesque, busy seaport with traditionally shaped and artistically painted fishing-boats.

You can get some memorable photos but of course be sensitive to the fact that this is not Ghanaian Disneyland. The smells are a reminder that there are serious endeavours at hand – trying to earn a livelihood in a most precarious occupation. This is...More

I enjoyed seeing fishermen living in this area. The atmosphere were something I had never experienced. I am from the USA and felt like I am in an ancient city.

The lagoon is filled with lots of fishing pirogues as the fishermen are either getting set to go on an expedition, or returning from one. You can see some washing their nets, etc.
