This fort is situated in Elmina village and quite possibly has a more dominant position on the hilltop overlooking the village than its more famous neighbour Elmina castle. And while we were there a few hundred people, foreigners and locals, visiting Elmina castle, no one...More

There is a wonderful view from the fort, and I recommend to visit the small streets of Elmina around the fort.

We were unable to visit so we only took pictures from the Elmina Castle. The road is completely inaccessible. Otherwise this could be an interesting addition to Elmina Castle.

Also known as Fort Coenraadsburg, it was built in 1652 to protect Elmina Castle from attacks. This is a historic building and well worth taking the time to visit.

Worth the short climb, although not presented well as a historic monument. The admission we paid was probably 'umofficial' . No guide, no displays. Excellent views of the Castle, the historic town , the lGoon and fishing boats.

Not accessible unless paying ceidi to seedy, aggressive outside locals. Okay view but not worth the hassle.

Fort St. Jago gives you a picturesque view of Elmina, but there is relatively no tourist infrastructure set up to properly tour the place. Additionally, you feel like you are walking through the living quarters of the caretaker and the family (because you are!) -...More
