We came late afternoon, which caused our visit to be a bit too hectic. Make sure you have ample time to look around and meet the chief - included in the program. It is an interesting village with insight into local politics and chief selection - a big problem in this country. The guy has 23 wives with "many many" children.
We liked our guide - good English, informative and patient, The architecture is interesting as well as the various local shrines and the fact that some in the family are Muslims and some Christians. Make sure you bring some "kola nuts" to the chief - a friendly and patient guy (apparently tamed by his wives)...

This was for me one of the highlights of our trip to Ghana.

The friendliness of the people in the village was outstanding and we were warmly welcomed.

It is one of the best places to witness the traditional lifestyle and religion.

We also met the chief and got some explanations by the fetish priests who showed us the shrine.

The landcape is very nice. The guide explains everything well and you get to see the village. If you are lucky, the chief will see you. You can also see the juju place, where they do sacrifices.
Do not wear anything red if you want to climb the mountain, that is a taboo.

Tongo Hills were apex of my first trip to Northern Ghana. What impressed me most was combination of hilly landscape and pittoresque village. Living in Accra I missed these things a lot and I was happy to see completely different picture I was used from South.
Village itself slightly resembles Dogon settlements. It is well preserved and I loved to roam around. The sacrifice thing, which is the main attraction there was the least interesting thing there. But it's a destiny of such a popular places.
Anyway, I was really happy to visit the place.

We spent one afternoon here as part of a birding trip to Ghana; this is amazing habitat that reminded us of sandstone habitat in the Northern Territory of Australia. We had great looks at Fox Kestrel and (after considerable searching) Rock-loving Cisticola, two local specialities. Our group was accompanied for some time by a party of local youngsters who were very friendly.
