You can see the clock tower from almost anywhere in Bitola and although dating back to the 17th Century still shows the correct time. A good photo opportunity.

A city landmark, in a small well kept and shady green space. Of note-the clock tells accurate time and you can set your watch to its' bells.

A German firm supplied the clock mechanism and tower back in the early 1800s. When it wore out in the mid 1900s the city contacted the German firm, but it was out of business. They managed to find the family who had owned it, and they agreed to repair/renovate the clock and tower for free if the city would clean up the German military graves from the two World Wars. They agreed. And the clock runs fine.

Bitola's Clocktower is considered to be one of the most recognizable landmarks not only in regards to Bitola, but for Macedonia as well. Locally known as Sahat kula, it was built by Ottomans in 1634, and rebuilt in 1830s. Since then it has becoe one of the symbols of the Macedonian capital of consuls, as Bitola is known for even nowadays. Although at first glance it might appeal to you as a simple building without any content, but actually has one of the most complicated and unusual clock mechanisms, which could rarely be found in the world. All in all, if you're in Bitola, do visit this place, it is quite an interesting spot.

The clock tower itself is an attractive historic landmark in central Bitola. It’s located in a very pleasant area at the head of Shirok Sokak, surrounded with other monuments, fountains and a couple of mosques. Makes for a pleasant stroll.

The clock tower is one of the landmarks of Bitola. There is a story of the clocktower in English. The park is the starting point for the pedestrian street.

My daughter and I have been in Bitola for a few weeks now and can say it is a very nice place to come for a holiday.
We booked an apartment for the month and made it our base and travelled through Europe at the same time.
In Bitola everything is within walking distance and we have had no trouble what so ever
