On our Western Desert / White Desert Tour with Memphis Tours we visited the Valley of Agabat. It is a spectacular landscape formed by an ancient riverbed that has left rounded hillocks in a sandy waste outlined by white limestone. We stopped at a high vantage point where we could see across the valley and then drove through it to a place we could go sandboarding. It has become quite a popular stopover so don't expect to have the view all to yourself.

it was amazing to surf the sand, to go down and up continuously by a land cruiser driven by Mahmud, the perfect driver and the great associate of Loly Gamal: they are the master of the deserts!
colours were like a kid's drawing, or a cartoon. we could slip along the sand slope illuminated by a tireless sun!

Valley of Agabat is deep within the white desert. You have to be there to feel the out-worldly beauty of the place. Millions of years ago, the place used to be under the sea. Over the years, unique rock formations of limestone, chalk (and maybe sand) developed. When you stand atop the small rock cliff at one of the valley and the valley with the rock formation unfolds before you, and there is not a single trace of another living being in the whole vicinity - you'll find a unique moment of peace and contentment. Don't miss it!

I like the scenery, almost without other human beings in sight.
Find flower stones there with silver inside. You could find seashells/fossils because this valley used to be part of the ocean. This is the place to unwind from the crowded Cairo.

Had to go nearly 80 million years for this wonder to be born. Its name is Agabat, sometimes spelled as Aqabat, Akabat, Akabbat or Aqabbat. Million after million, shell after shell and one microorganism onto another, the old seabed began to be enveloped in limestone and chalk. Slowly, the sea disappeared, the seabed begun to rise and all around, the “green of life” surfaced. After another million years, the vegetation left room to an arid desert and again, million after million, the soft rock was sculpted by the sand drifting into large valleys and strange mountains. After another million years, the chance led us in this place. Proud and spectacular, it has no similar in the world, with every color of the light and shadows enriching the vision. When seeing it, the humans are going crazy of happiness and start doing unusual things ... there is too much beauty ... mountains of white and red limestone with sand dunes sliding from the ridge valleys. We were in this particular place (27°28'41.41"N 28°15'45.99"E) but all the area, miles around, has breathtaking views ... brother Traveler, if you go there, please, do not spoil anything.
