Beautiful lake

Great National Reserve. Nice hotel onsite. Hiking trail around lake. Craft vendors onsite. Can hire a boat ride cheaply. No fish in lake!

We took a boat rip in the lake around the islands and received great and informative information about this great place.

It's a place of an ancient volcan, now it's a lagoon, where you can have a tour through it in a boat, very nice scene, not expensive, very nice people who are in charge, very hospitable

Nice view. Boat tours around the lake. Not sure if I'd plan on spending more then a few hours there though.

We did about 1/3 of the trail around the lake. Pleasant hiking with nice views, especially when the clouds cleared and the sun came out. We also had a light lunch and coffee at the restaurant down by the boat dock. Nice way to spend an afternoon.

I have been here several times in the past. This year I brought a group of photographers to photograph here. All enjoyed it immensely. There are some great views and angles for various compositions. Well worth the time. Keep in mind that it is around 10,000 feet altitude, so climbing sand hiking there may not be your thing.

Must see - stunning! The altitude is real is you come sea level, but the huffing-and-puffing is well worth it for the beautiful panorama.

This was my favorite hike during my couple of weeks traveling through Ecuador and the Galapagos. I love the Otavalo Highlands, and this was a great workout, hiking the entire rim. Worth the effort! The views alone are magnificent!

You can get to the lake by taxi - $10 from Otavalo and $6 from Cotacachi. You can also book a tour and hire a guide, but I didn't find it necessary. There is quite a bit of elevation gain but the trails are well marked and well maintained. There are orchids and other flowers everywhere and go go through... More

Only couple of people were at the site when we got there later in afternoon. Our driver Louis Gavillanes told us that we will have nice quiet time and place to ourselves. Great time to sit there and just relax enjoying the view.
