They must have changed the policy for walking the wall because the turnstiles were open and you did not have to pay. You get great vistas from all four sides, so, if you make it up here for dinner, do take a spin on this nicely preserved ancient wall. And, it’s a hike to get up here!

You have to pay to get access to the wall. It was an easy walk around. You do get the views from there so worth doing.

This is a major item to do in Motovun along with climbing the bell tower and eating some delicious Istrian food. The views from the city walls are excellent.

This is a small and great route to take pictures around Motovun. You can see the surrounding hills and trees.
Now it is great time to visit since it is not crowded and packed with tourists.

It will take you 1 to 2 hours to visit Motovun and you should definitely do it!

The best reason to visit the ancient city walls of Motovun (in general) is to have great views of the surrounding forests. The best reasons to visit right now are that parking is free (right near the church and cemetery), entrance to the walls is free, and essentially no one is there.

The short walk around the city walls offers wonderful views of the surrounding countryside and the truffle forest. You pay for entrance. A guide is helpful especially if you want to know how truffle hunting dogs are trained.

It was a different experience walking on the wall surrounding the city. Being on it and seeing it from afar provides contrasting perspectives.

We stayed in Villa Maria for a night and had dinner at Konobo Mondo. After dinner, we walked to the ancient wall and was pleasantly surprised that walking the wall in the evening was free and I also walked it free of charge early in the morning. The views from the wall is marvellous and it is a short walk actually.
