About
The fortress of Tureta is the most significant fortress on the islands of Kornati, dating from the Byzantine period. It is located on the island of Kornat and probably dates from the 8th century. It is assumed that the fortress was built up for military purposes (for protecting and controlling the navigation in this part of the Adriatic Sea). The defensive wall situated on Ostrica peninsula near Grebastica is also very important. It was constructed in the 15th century.

This old fortress is placed on the island of Kornat. We were told that the fortress was built to control the marine traffic around Kornati islands.

here we visit the 6 cent.church, & some times have lunch,
when ever i visit the Kornati isl, the feeling is like its my first time,
so to show how beutiful the area is i agree with to the Irish writter, George Bernard Shaw,: when God created the world, something was missing, so by the tears of God, his breath & the stars, he created the KORNATI islands.

this is what i like to call, the wild nature, so untouched, no villages, no one lives there, no water, just old stone fisherman houses, its only about 2 hours from Zadar, & like going back to history, the ancient days, & being aboard a 19 th. cent. type boat, oh what a holiday, my guests say.

Excursions to Kornati are expensive and long for the few things you get - not even good snorkel. This fortress has nothing that would merit spending 5-10h on a crowded boat for 200-300kn (excursion boats). There is no clear path to climb to it, it is high sharp edged stones and rocks and horny bushes all the way to the top.
