so many nice swimming spots around Hvar. Lovely clear water. All pebble/ rock beaches so bring water shoes. The beach near the town is small but fine spot for spending the afternoon in the sun. You have to pay for the loungers so we just lay on towels.

This compact beach is only a few minutes stroll from the harbour at Hvar but could be miles away. As with many parts of Croatia, water shoes are advisable for the beaches which are primarily rocks and stones but the dividend is crystal clear water which is refreshing and beautiful. You will see fish and there is a protected area for people to swim in. In 95 degree heat, this is a welcome spot to cool off. There is some natural shade, but also loungers and umbrellas to hire as well. Well worth a visit.

This pebble beach is a few minutes walk from Hvar Harbour. Much like the rest of the island, it’s picturesque and near to amenities like bars and small souvenir shops. It’s a pebble beach, and not sandy, so it’s worth ensuring you have suitable footwear for both the water and rocky shore.

My sister and I decided to go for a late evening stroll on this stunning beach. Yes it has pebbles and it's compact but it still is gorgeous.

Starting at St. Stephen's Square, I took a long walk south along the waterfront, past the Franciscan Monastery, along Ivana Vucetica to the small Hvar beach (2.5km one way). The water was crystal clear, lapping against the rocky edge, and I could see little fish, shells and sea plants. The beach is in a little notch in the coastline; a couple of people were swimming in the protected water, and a few were at the edge, but the rocks and pebbles discouraged sunbathing. Some advice: wear sturdy foot gear for walking along the beach, flip-flops if you go swimming, use sunscreen, and take water, as the sun can be intense reflecting off the white limestone rocks. I enjoyed sitting in the peace and calm (after the hustle-bustle of Hvar harbor), listening to waves lapping the shore, watching seabirds soar in the breeze and observing the boat traffic into and out of the harbor. There was a small restaurant for coffee, food and ice cream fronting on the beach. Unfortunately, the beach faces south, so was not particularly good for sunrise/sunset. However, it was nice to experience a more natural side of Hvar than the medieval city. On my way back to town, I stopped at a restaurant for fish and chips overlooking Hvar harbor.

Like most places on this coast, the beach is pebbly but the water is gin clear and a beautiful colour - shades of blue and green that are pure and wonderful

Lovely quiet, white pebble beach with incredibly clear water. Walk round from Hvar via coastal tarmac road (minimal cars/scooters). A couple of cafes with sun loungers if required but pebbles are nice enough to lie on

We needed to cool off after our long walk up to the fortress, so decided to go for a swim. There were lots of rocks around the bay - but once these had been climbed over, we were able to swim out to the bouys which stopped boats coming too close to the shore. The sea was so clean and fresh. A glorious afternoon swimming!

Our Air BnB host recommended this beach to us because it was close to the apartment we were staying in. There was a path from the residential area (Krizna Luca) down to this beach (about 5-10 mins downhill on a rock path). When we arrived we had lunch at Mustaco, one of two restaurants on the beach. After lunch we rented two lounge beds (70 HKN) and one umbrella (50 HKN) from a rental hut (offering other things to buy including blow up toys for the beach). There was an ATM on the beach which was very convenient. But the only toilets I could see were those for the restaurants.

The water at this beach was very nice (there was a path into the water so you didn't have to step on all the rocks and slip and/or hurt your feet getting in or out) and a great swim (both for children and adults).

This was one of my favourite beaches in Croatia because it wasn't overly crowded! Definitely recommend if you are staying nearby!
