I love this place the most in Li Jiang . We had an excellent hike , ate at a local village , drank coffee at a quaint little house overlooking the lake , rode on the horse , walked on the grassland , and strolled around the lake under the blue blue sky . Is like a mini Switzerland with postcard beautiful view . . And best of all , is quiet , few tourists and you soak in the beautiful and serene atmosphere .

Wenhai lake turns grassland after raining season. It is on the southern slope of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. Many yaks and horses are grazing on this land with very beautiful background of snow mountain and blue sky.

Fabulous walk up through the trees with good cover. Quite steep and went from 2500 to 3200m and then down. Took <4hrs. Amazing guide Alvin Wong (318628021@qq.com) and a good guide is essential. Great Naxi village by the lake. Fine for anyone with reasonable fitness. A world class walk!

The nice photos one sees in travel magazines are apparently taken in June or July, when there is water and the grass is green. I came here in March despite the driver's strong advice not to. It is a 90 minute drive up and then down a hill from Lijiang Old Town. Apparently many locals come here during the summer season.

Excellent trek, absolutely no other trekkers on the trail. This is a real community-based ecotourism program, which works with over 50 ethnic families. Our local guide was great, the hosts were really really friendly and genuine, and the trekking was amazing. This made our experience in Lijiang real and worthwhile. It's recommended that you spend at least a day in Lijiang first before trekking to be sure that your body has acclimatised.

It's an interesting and peaceful lake - and not crowded at all compared to the other ones in the area.
If you like cycling you can bike from old town to the lake in 3-4 hours. However, it's a 16km uphill. Nonstop. Get your legs ready.
In the way, there's an amazing Buddhist lamasery where you can see novices at their classes. Since they also learn English if you are lucky enough to arrive during break time you can chat with them.

Went here as part of a day-long "eco-tour" with a small group and guide. Wenhai 温海 itself was peaceful and placid. The lake had water and the grass was green since we went in mid-August of this year.
Saw yaks 牦牛 and horses. Local villagers going about their daily chores. A backdrop of mountains made it a pretty place.
Elevation about 2,500 meters. We saw a couple of small restaurants, one of which looked nice. But it was not yet time for lunch, so we moved on.
Pleasant, low-key place to spend an hour or so. Not many tourists.

We went up to Wenhai after we visited Baisha. A very unexpected landscape around the lake. We did a ride to the lake which was nice since it was a good way to see all the grazing yaks on the meadow. Our guide Ebenezer mentioned that you can as well do a number of very nice hikes from Wenhai.
