About
Most travelers head straight for the ancient city of Dali, also known as Dali Gucheng. The old city is where the three pagodas and Foreigner's Street are located, while Erhai lake is closer to the new city.

This is a very interesting area to walk around in for a day or so. Lots to see. Thousands of tourists. Take it slow and watch the people. Very heavily commercialized. In my opinion, Xizhou has a better old town with fewer tourists.

Surrounded by a complete crenelated city wall with the gates still intact and in use. Very enjoyable to wander the streets, enjoying the atmosphere and browsing the shops. It is a live inhabited town so there are all the shops you need, cafes, restaurants and...More

I found Dali's old town better than Lijiang, in many respects. This is a totally walled old town, with four gates. A truly amazing place. A true microcosm of life in China. It has everything, from hotels to restaurants to markets to souvenir shops to...More

You gotta go. Good shopping. Many lovely streets. Is it ancient? Well. Maybe in that it’s not towering. But it’s your typically retrofitted and newly updated facings everywhere. It is good. Much bigger than I thought. And people do live there - it’s quite self...More

We had hopes for Dali old town, but those hopes were dashed when we saw nothing but shops selling the same trinkets over and over. Each street in this town seems like the rest, and after two hours of walking around, we had our fill...More

Very ancient place full of shops and bars. Overcrowded but worthy to visit. Very big needs at least to days to finish. Many sightseeing like temples, churches and museum. Best place in Dali. Don't miss it .
