Shaping Market is a wonderful, small and bustling market to get you instantly versed in the diversity that is Yunnan produce. Beautiful fruits, veggies, tofu products, small snacks, butchered meats, etc for very, very affordable prices. The market's small size is great to keep it from getting overwhelming. Highly recommend! This market was the most authentic thing I've experienced in China since traveling for 2 weeks. No Chinese tour groups. Only a few other westerners and local Bai people doing their shopping for the week. Loved it. Catch a bus for 10 rmb outside the west gate of the Dali old city.

The Shaping Market really has everything. We almost took a puppy on the trip with us. You can see many minorities in their national dress. Produce is not as diverse as in other markets. You can also buy many items for the household and some clothing. Found a wonderful piece of Dali marble to bring home.

This was one the most intense time of our trip. We went to this market not sure of what we would find. And even though we thought it would be bigger, this market was very rich in colors and local flavor. Almost all the older folks are dressed in their Bai traditional clothes and sell mainly food.
