The view over Erhai lake is great, and as well as the easy access to the Cloudpass walkway above the temple (a well maintained walking route along the mountain side) it is well worth the fee for the cable car and access to the park. The temple itself (if you are familiar with this style) is nothing remarkable but definitely... More

From the temple you have good view of the Erhai basin. You have a chance to see a good variety of Buddhist statues. You can take a cable-car up the mountain. Hiking up there is not recommended.

The best part of Cangshan is finding all the little temples scattered about. This is a good starting point, and easy to get to.

For the fit and adventurous there are a number of hikes into the national park, for those wanting a pleasant 2-3 hours take the chair lift ( located about 1 mile from old town - 20 rmb by taxi) the chair lift takes you up to the temple and there are some great views across the area, including 3 pagodas,... The temple offers an impressive view over the Erhai basin and features a local variety of Buddhist statues. You can take a cable-car up the mountain, but for those who feel a little bit adventous one can also trek up the mountain through forest with scattered graves and tea plantations. Wear shoes with good grip though.

Visited this Temple after hiking about 12kms from Gantong in May 2014. I hear the chairlift directly up to Zhonghe Temple reopened in June 2014, so access from Dali Old Town should be quite easy. Zhonghe Temple is a very classic local temple, well worth a visit. Many local festivals are held there, though not much was happening when we... More
