Ticket 40 RMB per person. I've seen the movie the Journey to the West so I feel very excited I saw the mountains which were featured in the movie. It was very hot when I was there in October 2019 so we quickly went back. I'm against cruelty to animals but my husband wanted to ride a donkey.

There is a huge thermometer to show the temperature. Nothing much here to see unless you want to ride the camels and various activities.

The mountains are impressive to see, but they’re too hot to explore properly. Unfortunately the visitor centre has the feel of something that has been built simply to justify how much they want to charge you to see it. All it does is get in the way of the natural wonder and leave you feeling ripped off. My advice - take in the mountains from the car park and then move on (to one of the ruined cities or Tuyuk village ideally).

Its a hot place with barren hills and land.
Went there to see the place where the mythical Monkey God used a magic fan to damp the flaming fire hills!

We intended to visit this attraction, but it just seemed too busy, as the car park was full of tour buses. Instead of paying the RMB40 entrance fee, we decided to take photos from the car park, as we had visited many sites in Turpan that were far more interesting. We took a few photos from the parking lot and then left. I think that this site and the Astana Tombs are overrated and can be missed when visiting Turpan.

Went out at 7-8 in the evening as recommended by our guide. Unfortunately all we saw was rock. Having read previous reviews I wasn't intending to pay the entrance fee, but a I was taxi sharing with 5 others I paid up and went in. The ticket price gets you in front of a wall that they have built up but nothing more.
I wish China wouldn't Disneyfy there natural view points then charge to go to them, there would have been nothing wrong with taking the cab out and stopping on the side of the road, not that this would have made it flame.
From my point of view waste of £10 and most of my evening.

Beautiful coloured mountains that change colour in different sun lights and cloud cover. At one part, there is a view point where a local sells hard boiled eggs cooked in the hot sand! Taste the same, just slightly discoloured.

The “Flaming Mountains“are very popular with local tourists with their lovely pink and red hues and make a pleasant drive out into the desert.

Flaming Mountain is famous because of a well-known Chinese story book. It is worth seeing as it is quite unusual. All barren and brownish red. One has to go on a sunny day to see the glory of the all-red mountain. Slanting sunlight late in the day is better but it is hard to catch on a group tour. I took a walk from the entrance area all the way to the foot of the mountain; it takes about 20-25 minutes. It was quite hot on the day but tolerable. Fortunately there was a waiting donkey-cart to take me back to the entrance, at RMB50.

Hi Jenny
Where did you stay in Turpan? Can you please recommend a mid range hotel that is near to night
markets in Turpan and close to other attractions?
Also to go around to the attractions near Turpan , where to get a taxi with a English speaking guide for a reasonable price?
We are husband and wife planning to go there 31 May for two nights from Brisbane.
Any suggestions to make the most of our stay in two nights and 3 days?
We will highly appreciate your help in this regard....feeling lost so far.
Kind regards,
Vibha

Mid range priced hotel in Turpan may not meet your expectations in a desert town .If you need a bed and drinking water then is is ok..I suggest you look for a better one in downtown...You can arrange from the concierge to the main attractions from there..
Cheers and have a great holiday

How long does it take to get to the Flaming Mountains from Turpan? Is it possible to take an early train from Urumqi to Turpan and then do a day trip to view the Flaming Mountains all in the same day?

If you're want to travel by train, there possibly is one. Just check it out. Train travel is not very enjoyable and it is difficult to organize tickets unless you speak Mandarin. It takes about two hours in a private bus to get there from Turpan.
