Tashilhunpo Monastery is situated in Shigatse, the second largest city in Tibet. In 1447, the first Dalai Lama built it and it has been one of the six great Gelugpa monasteries. If you go to Shigatse, you cannot miss the marvelous monastery where you will see a lot of precious religious statues and stupas.

Very well kept. Unfortunately nobody concern about the public toilets. Very dirty full of flies and mosquitoes. Totally neglected areas. Hundreds of people visit this beautiful monument and did enjoy photographing. Crossing these washrooms were also a sort of challenge due bad smell. If the...More

One of the main reasons for our stop over in Shigatse - wonderful place to visit! Serene and peaceful with more genuine pilgrims than tourists. Lovely to see the monks going about their daily routines! Simply beautiful!

This is a 5A degree scent in Xigaze. Many people save money for come here make a pilgrimage and make there dream come true. There is a biggest budda made with copper in this temple.

we took the 8:30 train from lhasa in the morning, and returned with 6:20 train in the evening. a long day indeed to visit only this monastery. if you happen to be around, go have a look and learn something about panchen lama.

Large monastery built in1447 it has the largest Maitreya Buddha statue in the world made from gold and copper alloy.The most interesting room is the printing press where there are hundreds of original wooden manuscripts and you can also watch the monks print onto fabric

Decor is stunning & the monks chanting in every temple made the atmosphere even better. We went at opening time & didn't see any other tourists which made a big difference to the experience.
