Pala Manor is an interesting stop off en route to Gyantse and depicts a family house as it was prior to the Chinese Invasion and the Cultural Revolution. Unfortunately it is ruined by the biased portrayal of the family as slave and serf owners with the latter only being saved by the arrival of the brave Chinese. Unless you want... More

Only superficially - on the outside - like one of the monasteries, this gives an excellent insight into the architecture and layout of a traditional home of a well-to-do Tibetan before the Chinese takeover. There is a well maintained 2-story house built around a courtyard, beautifully painted with colourful frescoes, and some of the furniture also remains. There is also... More
