The Longmen Mountains and Grottoes is in Henan Province , China. It is about 12 km south of Luoyang City, facing the Yi River. It is listed by UNESCO as a World Cultural Heritage Site. There thousands of Buddha statues and His Deciples sculptured and chiseled in the grottoes of The Longmen Mountains. These statues range from as small as... More

Well justified as one of the most impressive historical and famous Buddhist site in all china. You need a taxi or to join a tour to get here, but its not to be missed

We spend 5 hours here. So many attraction here. There are some convenience store inside it but most of them selling ice cream. Be prepared for lot of... More

definitely a highlight of my trip - be prepared to walk hundreds (& hundreds of steps) - allow 3 or 4 or more hours - worth adding to your itinerary - so much history and amazing carvings (still in good condition)

A great day out exploring this historical monument. I wouldn't suggest going a long way out of your way to get here, but if you're near Luoyang (or have been to the Shaolin Temple nearby) it's worth it.

The huge statues at the top of the long staircase is absolutely amazing to see, the history of this site is so interesting. You think the Grottoes are amazing along the way but when you get to this -wow. Make sure you have your camera, people didn't mind taking turns taking their photos in front of this enormous feat of... More

I have been here many times and you see something different every time. The government has done a good job modernizing this area. When your looking in some of these caves you can see some of the original paint used. This will require a lot of walking and stair climibing. At the end of the tour there are many nick... More

Less is more. The tour need not continue across the river. What is signicant is on the main side. One must appreciate the fact that the statues were an ongoing effort generation after generation.
