Funny bamboo boats on a calm river. Not sure about the safety but if you can swim the river is quite calm

The bumpy back road bus ride from Guilin is well worth the effort to get to Yangdixiang and take the ride down the Lijiang River on one of their small four person boats. The view of the mountains is fantastic and along the way you...More

We got quite a kick out of the "weed whacker-sized" engines they used to motor these PVC pipe rafts on the water. It was fun and there were a boat load of these all up and down the river. The surrounding mountains are so beautiful.

This was much more peaceful than the motorised PVC pipe rafting. I'm glad we chose the Yuong River rafting. It was a relaxing way to see the karst mountains. There were about 4-5 small waterfalls that you go down which creates a small splash -...More

Wherever you pitch up along this river for a bamboo river trip, you cannot but be delighted with the trip. It was, in our case, a longer than expected journey up river, sharing the experience with many other bamboo rafts, but never feeling that the...More

I was a bit unlucky with the weather - cloudy, rainy day - but, it was still worth floating down the Li River to see the karsts, which are the fascinating rock formations that are unique to this part of world. The float provides a...More

We booked our tickets through our hostel (Yangshuo Sudder House). It was 185 CNY (~$26 total) for a 2 person raft and the ride was about 40 minutes. We left from Shui E Di port. We read some other reviews about having to find the...More

This was wonderful raft journey. The views were fantastic. Few bumpy rides down the weirs think there were 2 depending the speed of the river . Our day had a fine mist but this made the journey magical. Two seater rafts take about 45 mins...More

This is a very relaxing scenic raft ride allowing you to take in the Li River scenery in a slow, comfortable manner. You will slowly pass by very photogenic rock formations and make a photo opt stop at a beach where you could take pictures...More

The last time we were in Guilin, a boat cruise on the Li river (Lijiang) provided a most scenic cruise among bamboo groves and the karst hills and mountains. This time, we did the Li River on a plastic bamboo raft where one gets closer...More

Questions & AnswersAsk a question
Hello everybody. I am travelling to Guilin with my mum who is over 70s. Would the Bamboo Rafting experience recommendable? I read somewhere that people over 70 years old are not allowed to take this trip. I would go for the cruise, no problem, but it appears to last too long (4, 5 hours). Anything shorter? Thank you Lorenza

I think the age limit is 64 so I think it's unsuitable for your mum. Such a shame as it's a lovely trip. No idea if they do a shorter trip than the cruise. walking across the rafts to get seated can be hazardous. Hope... More
We will be rafting in late September. I saw somewhere that water shoes are recommended.. and sunblock. Sounds reasonable. Also recommended was insect repellent with DEET. Another list suggested wipes for stings.. Are these necessary? I hate DEET if I can avoid it, and I'm hoping not to get stung! Thanks. Mikki

We didn't use insect repellent when there in early July - we did use sun block though. there is s shade over the raft but still would use some sun block if a sunny day. Not necessary shoes or wipes.
how much was the bike and rafting trip please?
