This was one of the highlights of my life. I skied Portillo in August in the 1990's After my boyfriend who I was with on and off for 16 years broke up our relationship. At the time, I was heartbroken. But I had the most...More

I stayed here in April for a week for a business conference. Simply put, it was a great experience. Because of the remote location, we were originally nervous about the food (all our meals were here for ~250 people) and keeping guests busy and happy....More

Fabulous natural beauty, steep mountains and gorgeous lake which can be viewed from restaurant while having lunch at hotel. The road to Portillo in final stretch is awesome - 29 hairpin bends. Worth a visit. We did it in our rental car for a day...More

Portillo is a very good place to ski and often has the best snow in Chile. Places a little further south like Nevados de Chilllan get more snow but Portillo has better quality powder and since the resort is located in a steep, sun protected...More

Although you can day ski at Portillo in some higher snow years, day visits are often restricted during leaner snow years or busy hotel periods. I recommend calling before day visiting. Also, only parts of the hotel are open to day visitors. My review below...More

The entire area is above treeline. Along with the great views of the surrounding mountains, lake and hotel, this means that visibility can drop to zero during storms. On our first day there we hired an instructor to show us "how to ski Portillo." Fortunately,...More

A great place for a day trip from Santiago. The ski resort is amazing and the lake is beautiful. If you are not staying here you have very little to do since it really caters to the skiers.

Portillo is a very beautiful place, where you can take good pics of the mountains. Like a Ski Resort, there's some safety issues: some skilifts haven't signals to warn you about where and when you have to get down of the lift; is very complicated...More

Hello - I am planning a trip in late June where I am primarily hoping to snowboard. Is there a chance the conditions won't be suitable at this time for skiing/snowboarding?

Response from Paco S | Reviewed this property |
Yep. It all depends on when the first big storm hits. It is a much better bet to go late July or August.
When is the best time of year to ski portillo?
