Portillo is a ski resort located 100 miles from Santiago, Chile near the city of Los Andes. Beneath imposing mountains, Portillo rises from 2880 meters above sea level to its highest point 3332 meters with 23 ski trails and 12 lifts. Portillo is the oldest ski area in South America, and its history holds an important place in the legend of skiing. Over the past 50 years, Portillo has gained a reputation as an excellent destination for skiers and boarders. Practicing ski sports in Portillo is a very popular activity among people from all around the world.

The place was almost empty, but we got snacks and a tee shirt. Beautiful view off the balcony of the lake. Lots of heavy wood paneling and details through out. The road can be interesting with traffic and weather, Lots of trucks in both directions...More

definitely a family travel location, with easy tracks, usually good snow if you avoid shady areas (usually icy)... Old hotel, and the crew is poorly educated. You will have to plan your meals previously in order to avoid gettin stuck, specially at lunch time.

Portillo is an amazing place, one of the best places for snow sports in the country, also the hotel is really good with a very professional staff.

Very nice maintained place for skying in the Cordilleras close to the Argentinean boarder. Several slopes and various lifts to take you around. You can hired heliski... 2round for 500 USD.

There might be, but not that I'm aware of. Most of those accommodations will probably be found lower down the valleys. Also since the resort really doesn't cater to day skiers, you may also have trouble using the runs there... More

Yep. It all depends on when the first big storm hits. It is a much better bet to go late July or August.
