We stumbled upon this winery right at normal closing time and they still let us wander the grounds buy a bottle and have a taste of some fantastic and inexpensive wines.

The place was rustic and had some serious charm, it looked like a family run operation and all in all it was one of our favorite unplanned stops in Chile. I would certainly return.

We came by late afternoon. The owner Felipe gave us a private tour. Although he spoke minimal english and our spanish was weak we could follow things pretty well. Great sense of traditional winery using equipment from his grandfather. Tasted 4 wines with cheese and crackers. Good wine too so bought some to take home. Thank you much Felipe for the tour and also for the hotel recommendation!!

It is a lovely vinery. Built over 130 years ago, it has a terrific architecture. You should stop there just for the setting alone. The vinery has beautiful old Spanish adobe type buildings, with flowering bougainvillea and a large vineyard in the back. We didn't have a lot of time, so we took a short tour with a wine testing. The white vines were better for me then the red. I found the Porto production unusual and interesting.

The Sanchez de Loria vineyard/winery was founded in 1890 and it is currently run by Felipe Cruz Sanchez. A number of red and wines are made here, all the old fashion way. They include several Cabernet Sauvignons, Sauvignon Blanc's, and a Demi-Sec sparkling wine. Despite the fact that some of the equipment and barrels used in the wine-making process at this winery date from WWII--this Aconcagua vintner really knows what he is doing. We had an opportunity to taste several wines with Mr. Sanchez, including his reserve Cabernet, which considering the price (about $8.00 US) was a terrific value. My favorite, hands down, was a late harvest Sauvignon Blanc--I bought three bottles. If you are ever in the Aconcagua Valley and want to visit a traditional family run rustic vineyard this is the one to hit.
