It was my second visit to the reserve, and I once again saw dolphins, even some baby ones, lots of birds and penguins. We got to see and walk the whole isla damas, which was closed last time we were there. Nice trip, despite getting a flat tire for the unpaved road. You cannot swim on the island

We just left there. Awesome time!! Saw penguins, dolphins, sea lions, otters, and tons of birds. Had a nice boat guide but he only spoke Spanish, so lots of it went over our heads. Not sure if they do English tours. We just drove ourselves and went on our own (as opposed to an organized tour). Got there around noon... More

If you love animals this is your day tour! It begins with a 90 minute car ride from La Serena. The ride is a little winding and bumpy throughout the Quebrada de Choros, though you can sight foxes, donkeys, guanacos, and horses. Once in Punta Choros you jump on a small boat with 6-10 others on a 15 minute boatride... More

We booked a tour through our hotel. A bit pricey but so worth it! A van picked us up and several others along the way. It's a long drive to the boat dock but Hector, our driver, made it very entertaining. He stopped to show us desert foxes, guanacos, goats, and wild donkeys. Once to the dock, we got a... More

Isla Damas is a place located in the region of Coquimbo in Chile, and is at 2 hours of La Serena, it is also part of the Humboldt Penguin National Park. To get to the island you have to sail in a boat from Punta de Choros, and there you can enjoy the beautiful beaches with white sands and clear... More

We came here excited to see the penguins, but were thrilled we also got to see many dolphins and sea lions. Fun even on a cold and overcast day. It is possible to visit without a tour if you take the bus. They say to be at the bus stop by 8:30am but our bus did not leave until 9am... More

This trip was something i havent done before in my life so it was exciting to me. People said if you did something similar before, you wouldnt find this amusing. Anyway, the tour bus came slightly later than they said they would but it was alright. The tour guide, Jorge, a thin man with curly hair, was very friendly and... More

If you have seen penguins in the wild before, you will be extremely disappointed. There are Humbolt penguins that live year round this island, but not in large quantities. Other than a few interesting species of birds, some sea lions, you basically waste an entire day to see very limited wildlife and mediocre scenery.

We went in august with a tour company Ecoturismo from La Serena and it was great! Our guide really made sure that we could get as close as possible to everything. We saw dolphins up close next to our boat, penguins, baby penguins, sea lions, loads of baby sea lions, pelicans and so many other birds. The nature was also... More

Isla Damas (Pingüino de Humboldt National Reserve) is located some 100km from La Serena, you got here mainly on organized tour with ecotourism companies. First I've nothing but praise for our guide (I forgot the name, sorry). He was an ex-teacher, fluent in english, spanish and french. Always there to take care of you and giving plenty of useful information.... More
