This is the central market, but if you're a tourist like me, you'll get ripped off. My mom came with me and yelled at some of the people there for overcharging me. I don't look like a local, I get it, but I'm not dumb enough to pay the extreme prices. The other market I prefer to go to is Psar Boueng Chhouk. It's much cheaper and less than a mile from this market.
I was able to get my mom to bring down prices for a lot of things because she knows their prices.

The Phsar Nath Cenral market sits at a major intersection at the northern end of town. It spreads a whole block from Road 3 down to the riverside Road 1. Around the entrance on Road 3 are many vendors cooking local fish. The smell is overpowering but never the less is a fascinating place to wander around. It is great to see the variety of creatures which can be gathered from the Tonle Sap. Crabs, squid, prawns, a great variety of fish, frogs and other indistinguishable things on sticks.

Psar Nath (or Central Market) is located in the middle of Battambang city. This is, however, not the biggest market here - which happens to be Psar Boueng Chhouk located a short distance away.
Housed in an old french colonial styled building, this market has both a wet section as well as an area selling clothes and other things.
This market is really interesting early in the morning with meat and vegetable vendors selling right outside the market and makes for some amazing and interesting photography opportunities.

This market is as authentic as you will find throughout Cambodia. Yes, it’s old but this is where the locals shop for fresh (meats, vegetables, fruit, flowers, clothes). There are not many tourists but you’ll find friendly vendors who may speak a bit of English. The variety is as good as the market in Siem Reap. Just remember this is aimed at more local customers so you’ll find more makeup, toiletries, and toys than in other areas.

The central (main) market is truly an interesting architectural building with its clock tower. But the offer is quite poor and the prices high. Fruit is nicely arranged for tourist eyes but is also extremely pricey!
Have a look at the building, but if you are looking for a real local market with affordable prices and a charming atmosphere then go to "Psah Boeung Chheuk" only 500m Northwest of this central market. It is surrounded by street 105.

Smallish market and quite typical for Cambodia but worth visiting. We had coffee and doughnuts two mornings at a great coffee place on the central crosspath. It served fantastic coffee and the staff were cool and friendly. Another day we bought fresh doughnuts somewhere else. We also visited the larger market in town which is basically a larger and slightly neater version of this one. Neither market seems especially touristy: we only saw a couple of other tourists in either place.

A very large market situated in the centre of town. Many stalls inside and out selling all you could want. Spend a couple of hours wandering around enjoying the sights, sounds and smells. Great place to get cheap food.

Not sure the building is worthy of keeping but it is certainly different from the other buildings in the area and the high ceilings and exterior roof fins probably help it to keep slightly cooler than outside. Typical market that sells everything from cosmetics to hardware, jewellery, fish, fruit, meat and of course ready to eat food.

Our tuk-tuk driver told us that this market is for tourists and the locals go to the 'other' one. We got bananas for $1 during the day market and late afternooon and night street food vendors would appear with many locals getting their dinner as well. We had steamed local veges for 5,000 Riel that could feed 4 people and a grilled Cat Fish for $1. If you want you can buy from here and sit by the river to enjoy the food. There's also a nice restaurant under white plastic roofs neat the river facing the market with less than $2 meals.
