The second biggests Pagoda in Myanmar, but it lacks the majesty of Shwedagon in Yangon. But therefore, there are much less people here. The intersting part was the ancient fallen pagoda top, which is still visible.

Beautiful golden Pagoda situated in Bago ..2 hours drive from Yangoon. Good to have a guide to tell the history of this Pagoda. From the brief picture hang on the wall about this Pagoda was actually built and by a king who went to India...More

It's obviously not the same as the Shwedagon Pagoda (though higher), this one is not to miss on any trip to Bago. It's generally not as crowded as some of the more famous pagoda in Yangon and thus easier to appreciate the intricate details. Worth...More

Visited as part of a moto-taxi tour. Really great to see, worth a visit. Nice (albeit touristy) little market around the Buddha. Interesting posters explaining the story of Buddha.

Definitely a place worth visiting in Bago. It is simply massive. Also a little market at the front of the temple to buy some local goods as well. Remember to tip the person 'looking after your shoes'. Remember to respect those there to actually pray...More

Bago was worth every day trip while you're in Yangon for a few days. Go!!! It's only 1.5-2hr drive one way. The giant Buddhas everywhere is more fascinating than the pagodas in Yangon with a zoo-like tourist/locals-trapped atmosphere, not in Bago. This paya is huge...More

... what could. This stupa is higher than the Shwedagon, it's been rebuilt and added to so many times. Bago is a good town to visit.

This is a very impressive temple, with its very large stupa. But it is certainly not as clean, nor as well maintained as others that we have visited.

I visited Bago on a day trip ex Yangon, an approximate 2 hr drive ex Yangon with midway stop at the very moving and beautifully maintained Commonwealth Grave cemetery at Taukkyan. Shwemawdaw is a fun visit, significantly off the beaten tourist track compared to Shwedagon...More
