Since last year, it appears as some restoration work is taking place. It is still way overpriced at 10,000 Kyats for what it is. Hopefully that money is going to upgrade that place. With the proper artifacts, a clean, buffed floor, the right displays, this could be a worthwhile attraction. As it is, you can see the whole thing in... More

The site is peaceful with nice views, and the reconstruction gives you an idea why Ralph Fitch was so impressed when he visited in 1586. The ancient teak logs, with their inscriptions are fascinating. It might not all be authentic, however it is worth the visit.

Kanbawzathadi Golden Palace in Bago is a reconstruction of the original Royal palace from the second half of the 16th century. it used to be covered in gold and this huge compound has many halls and apartments. Most of the furniture and ornaments were lost and destroyed when it was looted in the 1599. So what you see inside maybe... More

if you like it fake and artificial, this site may be of interest. but unfortunnately, there is hardly anythiing left of the ancient palace. The rebuilt palace is a really poor work, only visually in some way similar to the ancient palace. It's a pitty that Bago does not do more along the Unesco guidelines to protect and restore its... The palace is in the midist of repairs & there is really nothing much to see here. You can see panels of historical photographs with info on the different kings of Burma. Since we are already here in Bago, might as well come here & have a look.

The palace may be a replica but it is of archaeological interest, especially the huge teak post. The displays have enough in English to make it all worthwhile.

Currently undergoing a lot of restoration, but the grandeur is still very evident. There is also considerable detail provided for all that is on display, with a large amount of this also translated in English. A treasure to behold, and an education to offered.
