A great place to stroll every season. For children, the room where Vasil Levski and the museum were hiding is very interesting.
A holy and holy place that preserved the Bulgarian faith, life and culture and gave shelter to one of the greatest Bulgarians, Vasil Levski

A perfect place for a retirement. It is a beautiful monastery, well preserved, and there is the chance to book rooms for sleeping. One of the best religious places I have visited in Bulgaria.

We came here and asked to stay in one of the rooms for the night. It was very special to come back from dinner and be alone in the courtyard looking at this beautiful monastery. Same thing early in the morning. Rooms were simple but comfortable. We left the next day just as tourist busses were arriving and felt lucky for experiencing this place so quietly.

It's one of the most important Monasteries in Bulgaria. It has been recently restaured and you can enjoy the amazing wall paintings of the typical Bulgarian craft. It's a place full of history and tradition!

This shrine was very busy on a nice Sunday morning with people who came to venerate an icon in the church. The monastery is old and interesting to see and the setting is very pleasant. And there is no harm in acquiring a blessing and saying a prayer, even if you are not Orthodox. It is well worth seeing if you are in the area.

Troyan monastery is one of the most worshiped monasteries in Bulgaria. It is situated in a picturescal area surrounded by forest and old time villages. It has played an important role into Bulgarian history many times. Vasil Levski (Bulgaria national hero) was using the place to hide himself when needed.
The place is rennovated and accessible. The visit is free. Souvenirs are not.
Inside the monastery is the holly icon God mother with three arms. Thanks to her many christians were cured. It is believed that the icon has showed in the past to the villagers where the monastery should be built centuries ago.
Do not miss this place. You will regret it....

Very nice small Monastery where you can take picture and visit not only the Church but the Balconies and the outdoor of Monk housing.
For dimensions is the third one in Bulgaria

The Troyan Monastery is very popular in this area. It is a beautiful monastery with wonderful gardens and premises. There is a wonderful church and a very pretty chaper with lots of icons of Christ and various saints. Unfortunately, the monastery and its yard were overcrowded, probably because our visit was on Sunday.

We arrived in bright sunshine and fortunately few people were there so we were able to enjoy our trip around with little interruption. Much of the monastery has undergone extensive restoration in recent years and more is underway so parts looked so well cared for and in such good condition. The entrance, gardens and buildings in the first courtyard looked beautiful in the sunlight.
The church painted with frescoes inside and out was fascinating unfortunately all the information was in Bulgarian so it was difficult to get a clear idea of the underlieing theme it seems to centre round the life of the virgin and her ancestry. Sunlight steaming through the windows made the colours very intense. From conversations heard it seems restoration work is to happen here also. Swallows nest in the narthex with paper on the floor to catch droppings.
When we tried to take the dog in the elderly woman selling holy candles to light went hysterical shouting and screaming - obviously only birds in paradise dogs not allowed.
The chapel and art works beneath the tower are worth visiting as are the galleries surrounding the second courtyard and bell tower. Again flowers everywhere.

This is a stunning place which is calm and peaceful with beautifully planted gardens. Free to enter although parking costs 1 lev you are allowed to wander around taking your own time without hassle from guides etc. A gift/bookshop on the premises furnished me with a cheap and basic guide book and the people there were lovely. This is a very important part of Bulgaria's heritage and it is easy to see why. As the Troyan craft centre and museum is just down the road it makes sense to visit the two attractions together but be aware that this isn't Blackpool and the Monastery is a special and beautiful place especially it's decoration and stunning mosaic pictures.
