About
The Museum Paulista is closed for renovation. Modeled after the palace and gardens at Versailles, the gorgeous, purpose-built Museu Paulista da USP (commonly known as the Museu do Ipiranga) occupies the promontory where Brazilian independence from Portugal was peacefully, if loudly, proclaimed by Dom Pedro I in 1822. The landscaped gardens provide a refreshing respite from the surrounding urban chaos, while the ornate museum itself — affiliated with the University of São Paulo — educates visitors in the history of the city and nation via portraiture, antique vehicles, housewares and informational installations. Ticket includes entrance to the nearby Museu de Zoologia (Zoology Museum).

Neighbourhood: Ipiranga
Named after the Ipiranga River, this region is home to Independence Park, where it’s said Brazilian Independence was proclaimed. Its gardens and the tree-lined main street offer visitors a gracious view. The neighbourhood also hosts assorted museums and has a strong local feel. Ipiranga is a calm area, with a variety of good dining places and its own Municipal Market, which features flowers, meat, vegetables, fruits and some special events. Outside the main subway stations you can experience the busy streets, but you just need to walk a few blocks to get back the residential serenity of the area.

The building has been beautifully restored. The lobby and larger paintings are impressive. Unfortunately, the collections, in my opinion, are quite modest. More descriptions than items. I don't remember if there were any in English at all, if so, not many. Although the leaflet was in English and thanks to it I knew where I would find what.
On the big plus - the museum is prepared for blind visitors. On the roof there is an observation deck with a beautiful view.
In front of the museum is a huge fountain and a garden that was partly under restoration. Park behind the museum. A lot of people on the weekend.

Beautiful building, garden and the territory. Of course you cannot compare with the European museums and palaces but still not bad. Maybe one of the oldest architectural building. Lots of renovations were going on.

There are so many things to see here. The exhibitions are powerful and send a clear message. I love this museum. The art spans from the 15th to the 20th century. Its a must see.

This was formerly a great and beautiful museum.
I visited the museum for the first time, roughly twelve years ago.
The museum was closed about a decade ago for supposed "renovations" that have not happened.
The museum is currently closed to the public and has been closed as stated, for about a decade.
Despite the museum being closed to the public for such a long time, I see current four and five star reviews stating how great the museum is.
How can this be? Assigning high ratings to a museum that is not open to the public appears to lack logic.
Admittedly, the gardens near the museum are nice and well maintained, but the gardens are not the museum - - the museum is closed.
For nostalgic reasons, last week I returned to the museum grounds to look for any sign that the museum might be open soon. There is no evidence of any supposed renovations.
Too bad, maybe some day Brazil's "powers that be" will assigned money to make the renovations that were slated such a long time ago.

Unfortunately the museum is closed for a few years and it is under a much needed renovation. The most impressive is the architecture that you can still enjoy and walk around the beautiful garden that was inspired by the Palace of Versailles Garden. It is a great place to take pictures. Crossing the street there is the Independence Park, where you can walk and see the place where it was proclaimed the independence of the country.

Imagine a musuem to commemorate the independence of your country closed for more than a decade, and without expectation of being reopened until after its 200th anniversary.
That is the sameful situation of this museum.
A real pity.
But typical of the kind of things happening in Brazil over the last 20 years.

This is the most iconic museum of Brazil. It is the house for centuries of documents, photographs and furniture from the imperial era. It has a oot of story and content to be explored, but unfortunately, due to restoration services it is permanently closed. However, you can still enjoy the imperial garden and the park in the surroundings.

The building itself is absolutely stunning and has very impressive architectural design.
The view of the area (towards the monument) is also very special.

The park is all right for walks and other sports. Ive been several time to the museum and I have only good memories, unfortunately is closed.

A sugestão estação do metrô Alto do Ipiranga (linha verde) e depois táxi é a mais prática e barata. O trajeto metro parque é rápido...nem 10 minutos... Outra opção seria ônibus a partir do parque dom Pedro.
