Neighbourhood:
Sé, which derives its name from Sé Square, is a central neighbourhood in historic São Paulo. Close by, the Law School, the Museum of the Court of Justice and the Metropolitan Cathedral offer inspiring architecture. If you are looking for cultural activities, head to Caixa Cultural and check the schedule. In the area there is a popular pedestrian street called “Rua Direita”, one of the first streets in the region, which today marks the crowded perimeter. Sé is a great area to explore during daytime, but use caution if visiting alone at night.

It was just quite amazing to see these "many colorful statues" of saints above the length of the main aisle on its both sides which is really the spectacle that stands out the most in my memory of this "overall ornate" church (really plenty of beauty, intricacies & elaborateness to see inside a relatively small area), and yes walking along the main aisle of this small church (which is just about a third of the long rectangular building of the Monastery where the other parts are off-limits to the public) was actually somewhat of a reminiscent of that along the main aisle of the much-bigger Metropolitan Cathedral in Santiago (where also right above the length of the aisle on both sides are saint statues not colorful ones like here but gold-glittered).

And nearby, at just about a 5-minute walk (to the north which is in the direction straight out from this church) is Farol Santander with some outdoor balconies on its 26th floor for some great views of the city & where are also some exhibition floors including those with great displays of the bank that the building once was, and another 5-to-10-minute walk further north from that (through some cobble-stoned "pedestrian streets") is the square Praca da Se with the city's "main cathedral" Catedral da Se de Sao Paulo which is a pretty plain one inside except for its "huge pillars" but still a worthwhile visit especially right outside of it where there's a "big circle" like a compass or such & also a nice standing statue of St. Paul.

Forget the main São Paulo cathedral in the Praça da Sé. For that matter, forget the Vatican too. This must be one of the most spectacular places of worship anywhere in the world. It's mind-boggling. That the mind of humankind conceived of it makes me hopeful that we have a future.

The modest exterior might fool, but the inside is absolutely beautiful, the whole church is handpainted in the style of the Benedict Beuron School of Art, in a very distinctive style than most Brazilian churches. Even if you are not catholic, it is worth a visit to appreciate the level of craftsmanship. Photos can be done without flash, a lot of people don't know that flash photography is banned because much of the paint used is photosensitive and the cost of restoration is quite high (the paint used is made by dissolving pigments on eggwhites). Sunday 10 am masses are highly sought after, these are conducted with gregorian chant and organ music, I would advise getting there at least 40 min in advance to get a good seat. The church has a small store selling religious items and bakery goods made by the monks to help with the high upkeep, some Sundays there is a very good Brunch as well served, I believe you can purchase the brunch on the church store, occasionally after Sunday masses they also perform organ concerts free of charge for those interested.

This is an excellent place to visit when in downtown, the building is magnificent and the benedictine church is very very beautiful, if you are lucky to attend a mess with Gregorian chants than it will simply be a very unique experience, you can leave the church and stop by many old coffee places that sells gorgeous sweets and deserts, just one or two blocks away you can find the best places.

My friend and I purchased the meal and visiting ticket. It was terrific. Good food and we could be able to learn a little more about its history. It is a wonderful church. Much more interesting than many around the world. Superb stained glass.

This is most famous and touristic brunch in Sao Paulo. Before eating you should visit Saint Benton's church. The meal is inside of Saint Benton's school where you could admire old architecture. The brunch offers several types of plates and ingredients with Brazilian popular music. You must try it.

Stunning church built some time back in 1910... Very peaceful place which is both a monastery and a church. They have a shop which sells delicious bread and other goodies made by the monks.
