Calm, green and refreshing, the city's botanical garden, situated inside the immense Parque Estadual Fontes do Ipiranga (PEFI) on the south side of town, provides a beautifully appointed sanctuary for thousands of tropical plant and animal species. The garden opened in 1938 to preserve part of the remaining Atlantic coastal forest, and it functions as a research facility focusing on Brazilian flora and fauna. The garden also shelters the source of the Rio Ipiranga, which figures heavily into national patriotic lore.

It is a very nice place to be in touch with nature in the middle of Sao Paulo. You see a lot of birds, monkeys and plants. You can also have something to eat and drink inside.

I took a school trip of 4-5 year olds here. It was good for looking at natural objects, talking about growing and plant life. There was a walking trail that didn't take too long to walk as well as a greenhouse sort of area that...More

I was expecting flowering plants, manicured garden, labeled exotic plants. Had a great walk and talk with my friend as we strolled around the gardens but a little disappointed.

I love this place, is so calm and beautiful. You can see the source of a very big river, it's impressive. All the ways are very well cared, the restaurant is a bit pricy but the food is very good, so it's ok. Bring water...More

This beautiful botanic garden is a well kept secret of the city. Very well maintained, marvelous landscaping and relaxing atmosphere. It is a little far from the region of Jardins, Center, Ibirapuera Park, but it is really worthy the visit.
