About
Pinacoteca is a museum of visual arts, with emphasis on Brazilian production since the nineteenth century. It belongs to the São Paulo State Secretariat of Culture. It was founded in 1905 by the State Government of São Paulo and it is the oldest art museum in the city. It is installed in the old building of the Arts and Crafts College, designed in the late nineteenth century by the architect Ramos de Azevedo. In the 1990's it underwent an extensive renovation with the architect Paulo Mendes da Rocha's project. Pinacoteca hosts about thirty exhibitions and receives about 450,000 visitors yearly. The museum's main focus is to promote to general public a better experience with visual arts with its collection, building and historical relevance.

Amazing building featuring various eye-catching galleries on several floors. The entrance fee is 30reals and there is also a gift shop located just outside too. The building itself is magnificent to look at from both within and outside.

The sons and daughters opf our grand- grand- father, who had a meat slaughtery in Wilhelmshaven/ Germany delivering meat to the marine of "kaiser Wilhelm", left germany and emigrated in the 1900ies to North and South America (USA, Canada; Brasil), to Australia / New Zealand, South Africa, Hongkong, Singapore and to many countries in West Europe (Spain, Italy, France,...).

Our large family enjoys to meet every year in one of the home countries of our large international family. The one year, we meet in Germany, the next year in South America, the then following year in USA, or Canada, and so on.

We like to visit the Brasilian part of our family, because we enjoy the beaches in rio de Janeiro (Copacabana, Ipanema, Leblon,...) and at the Brasilian coast. the beaches are a favorite place for our children and youth.

The seniors in our family prefer places in the nature or places like the PINACOTECA do ESTADO de SAO PAULO. It is a really very interesting museum. It shows a lot of art of the colonial times when Brasil was explored.

Don't forget to take with a good digital photo and video camera!

It's worth a visit: interesting pieces of art, cafeteria and a good bunch of helpful volunteers that will guide you through the exhibits.
Just as a suggestion: avoid the park located just behind the building itself, as you may find some of the characters (homeless and drug addicts) a little bit intimidating.

I have seen all the works there is very impressive. Ron Mueck works amazing and it was fascinating. Also in a very good location for the museum building, right next to the metro. easy to transport. Crazy people waiting in queue for 4 hours. While waiting at street wizards enables you to enjoy.
definitely recommended.

Quite big building, various rooms, some old paintings, some contemporary artworks as well around. There are new emerging artists gagging to exhibit in galleries like this one, but apparently they didn't choose the interesting ones, I didn't enjoy the modern art. It's not a safe area so watch your wallet at any time.
