Pinacoteca is a museum of visual arts, with emphasis on Brazilian production since the nineteenth century. It belongs to the São Paulo State Secretariat of Culture. It was founded in 1905 by the State Government of São Paulo and it is the oldest art museum in the city. It is installed in the old building of the Arts and Crafts College, designed in the late nineteenth century by the architect Ramos de Azevedo. In the 1990's it underwent an extensive renovation with the architect Paulo Mendes da Rocha's project. Pinacoteca hosts about thirty exhibitions and receives about 450,000 visitors yearly. The museum's main focus is to promote to general public a better experience with visual arts with its collection, building and historical relevance.

I wasn't sure about entering at first sight. But then I entered the building and became amazed with the infrastucter, well distributed and organizated team. Ticket prices are very low and some days they are free.

My number one in Sao Paulo. Whenever friends visit me it's a must to go there and afterwards to the park next door.

Pinacoteca has both modern and classic art, but is laid out in a way that mixed the two and makes it a lot of fun! It's not very big but well worth a visit. It's also set in a beautiful little park and right by Luz train station (Estação da Luz) which makes it a wonderful afternoon trip to see... More

Most of the painting here are related with the Brazil history, you can found many religious paintings too. If you want to know more about Brazil it is a good place to go.

One of the most important museums in São Paulo. Sometimes, depending of the special exhibition, you will have to take a bid line to take the entrances.

in may was my last visit and I really enjoyed this place... you can find many expositions there and it has a good restaurant inside with a good home made wine.... just to be careful around because the neighborhood is not safe, be aware of the bikers around if you're using your cellphone or taking a picture.

the museum has a variety of artwork - you see classic and modern in the same place. You enjoy the permanent collection and check for temporary exposition before you go! Easy to go by subway or train, get off at Luz station. Saturday is free. Opens Wednesday to Monday 10:00 - 17:30, closed on Tuesdays.

Great opportunity to see, feel and experience arts and culture and be near Downtown São Paulo. Can even go nearby and have a great greek lunch @Acropolis. Buy clothes and stuff at Rua jose Paulino at great prices.
