Elevated over a concrete platform used for concerts and a weekly crafts fair, the Museu de Arte de São Paulo (São Paulo Art Museum, abbreviated MASP) is itself a work of art; the building is an imposing Modernist box suspended under two bright red concrete supports. Featuring classical European names such as Gauguin, Goya and Gainsborough, the museum also holds one of the largest collections of Brazilian and other Latin American artists on the continent.

It is one the largest museum in South America. After seeing so many museums in US and other parts of the world, I was a little disappointed. If you can find video for this museum on youtube, I would skip it. There is a ticket and it is expensive.

Impressive infrastructure in the heart of the city. Very well handed besides some of the big cities problems. Beautiful place!

The "mothership" of Sao Paulo art museums sits right on Paulista Avenue. This place is stunning. A wonderful art collection greets you like some terra-cotta army... flanked out across the room ready for inspection. Its jaw-dropping and inviting, too. Wondering through the plexiglass-framed and anchored artworks, lets you view the back of each for more information. And, you have to... More

It is a landmark in the city, and also a good place to walk around paintings. Nothing new for people who has been to the best museums in the world, but if you are in São Paulo, the MASP can't be missed. The Av. Paulista in front of it is the place where the São Paulo population walk, run or... More

Good exhibitions, quite expensive 30R. It should have better instructions. Did not realize that the museum has a floor under the ground as well.. Nevertheless, recommended

An unexpected outstanding experience. In a single space, the works (representative of succeeding eras) are exhibited facing the entrance, with legends on the back. Walk around; admire the quality and the breadth presented. One of the best Art Galleries i've visited.

Staying in Bela Vista

Neighbourhood Profile
Bela Vista
Known for its Italian cantinas, Bela Vista is the place to go for great pasta. Also called “Bixiga”, the area is an important cultural part of the city, with the bohemian and the religious costumes of its inhabitants on full display. In August, the large Nossa Senhora Achiropita party fills the streets with a variety of Italian food and music. You can experience the liveliness of the neighbourhood walking through the antiquities fair at Dom Orione Square or visiting the “Brazilian Caminito”, a version of the Argentinian street complete with colorful buildings. Bela Vista is also home to the traditional samba school “Vai-Vai”. Buy a ticket to a rehearsal and get a taste of what Carnival is like.
