About
Street art and graffiti are no where as prevalent as in São Paulo, where virtually no surface is left untouched. This lengthy stretch of high-walled residences in Vila Madalena, nicknamed Batman's Alley, showcases some of the most impressive spray paint murals around. The constantly changing nature of the art form means there's sure to be something striking and new with each visit.

Neighbourhood: Pinheiros
Exploring Pinheiros, a neighbourhood known for cozy restaurants and cafes, you will notice a youthful energy. Several cultural centres and institutes surround the area and even its main church, Calvário, hosts a traditional Brazilian “Festa Junina” - a celebration with traditional music, dance, and food during the months of June and July. On the weekends, residents gather at Benedito Calixto Square, a loud and crowded area where people enjoy live music drinks alongside the antiquities fair.

Beco Do Batman is worth a visit
Plan to spend a lovely afternoon here! Nice artwork similar to Wynwood in Miami but enjoyed it more as there are street vendors selling everything from coconut water to artwork. There are also several cafes and restaurants to choose from. Go on a Saturday and spend about 1-2 hours then head to Liberdade!

An Open-Air Museum of Wall Art.
The Beco de Batman (Batman's Alley) in Vila Madelena, not too far away from the Pinheiros district, is a must-do if you're in Sao Paulo. A few streets, with their walls and buildings, are covered in the most intricate and detailed art and paintings that you'll ever see. Superheroes, abstract art, tribal art and nature are just some of the themes that coat the walls of the area. The area seems safe but usual precautions are advised. I visited on a Saturday afternoon and there was quite some crowd closer to the new year. The streets have several souvenir shops, bars and restaurants as well as live performances that happen from time to time. Beco de Batman makes for a laidback afternoon or evening spent admiring some of the best street art that you'll ever come across.

    Great 1/2 day Tourist Visit
A vibrant locals area just 15 mins walk from the Metro Madelena or Sumare. Amazing graffiti art all around the area. Lots of bars and cafes for a stop in between walking the numerous hilly streets. You need your comfortable walking shoes for this area.

Graffiti all around on the street walls
We enjoyed a lovely walk along the graffiti walls. We took an uber here. Saw batman, the flash and other graffiti. It was a quick walk. We tool some pictures. We continued walking around the neighborhood. We went into various shops.

I was TOTALLY not expecting to like this stop on our guided tour, but it tuned out to be a highlight of our day! The art was gorgeous, the people, super friendly. The whole place had a super cool, chill, fun vibe for the whole family. There was music, art for sale (affordable and high end) and the street art was just amazing. The people were kind and fun and so welcoming. The area felt safe and relaxed and clean and it was just a fun, beautiful place in the midst of this massive, crazy city. Plus, the history of the place and the quality of the art and artists made it even cooler.

This was the first place I've been to in Sao Paulo that felt a bit touristy (but it still managed to retain charm).

Loads of amazing street art, but I prefer the stuff you see just wandering around the city, some of which covers the whole side of massive apartment blocks.

An interesting walk along the alley with many murals alongside, such fun. I real nice things to do in this artsy part of São Paulo. There are a number of people selling different wares.

We really enjoyed the art and the artists in Batman Alley. It’s only a couple of streets but felt like a large gallery. We plan on returning to see what new art is created.

A fun, energetic and bohemian area of São Paulo somewhat similar to Brooklyn, NYC. Well worth making time to visit especially over a weekend. Lots of energy, easy drinks, street art and street vendors in a smaller 3 block radius. You'll find good cafes, amazing bars and cocktail stand ups and small shops throughout the area. It felt totally safe with lots of tourists and locals from all areas of the globe. Parking can be challenging so probably best to book an Uber for easy in/out.
