the square is very beautiful especially at night with all the lights and decoration, the massive trees and the magnificent buildings around.

Really nice park with lot of huge trees, particularly the one in the middle, a giant fig tree. There are chairs to seat and relax, allowing people to enjoy the plaza. I did not see it, but it looked to me that some people used to spend the night in the park.

The church looks really nice next to the park. In the park you can see an impressive old tree. The story says that if you walk around the tree - you will come back to the city. Almost like a famous fountain in Rome (but that is hard to walk around that one). It is also a place to get some shadow in the many times very hot city.

I have travelled to Brazil often during the last 40 years and I have been in this place at least 20 times. It does not changed too much from my first time in 1974. It is in the Florianopolis downtown heart, sourrounded by historical buildings. There are always many people talking and resting from the hectic movement of shopping streets. It you has not been in Brazil before can be a place that you can feel some local flavor, but if you did it is nothing different here. However, the centennial fig-tree is something to see. To rest under its generous shadow, if you are overwhelmed by the hit, can be an excuse to walk there.

This is such a fun square to visit! Lots of sites to see...cathedrals, really old trees, people playing chess, many different vendors selling their goods. Such a fun place

It does show a historical area of the city, right in front of the cathedral and the old palace from the governor. At the same time, it is a plaza with trees and depending on the time of the day it gets packed with homeless people. It is nice to pass by it, but I would not get out of my way to come here.

A picturesque little plaza/park. Nice shade, some beautiful trees, including the massive one whose branches require struts to support. Was a battle of the chess masters going on at one of the the table-top boards with a crowd of 20 intently watching each move.

The Praca is probably not be worth a trip on it's own, but as it's a scant 2-3 minutes walk from the Mercado Municipal, which makes for a nice package visit.

Skip-able, nothing really outstanding to see. A big tree and quaint plaza, so much else to see on the island, don't go out of your way.
