About
While you might not expect to find one of the world's largest Oktoberfests in Brazil, the former German colony of Blumenau in the state of Santa Catarina rivals Munich as much for its authenticity as it does for the passion of its celebrations! Founded in 1984, the 18-day Blumenau Oktoberfest is a culturally rich blend of folklore and tradition, and gives locals and tourists alike the chance to fully immerse themselves in a wide range of carefully preserved German customs – including of course, bratwursts and beer!

This was our first visit to Oktoberfest and we had a great time. There are plenty of different choices for beer and food. Choose the place to eat wisely though. Our first meal was at a counter service place in the back of one of the beer halls and the food was poor. The second place we found was a table service place and the meal was very good. Anyway, lots of music, dancing, and costumes.

The Oktoberfest in Blumenau is quite interesting to meet. You'll find a own Brazilian interpretation of the original fest in Germany. The Vila Germanica is kind of big, but you'll find everybody in a turn, since the place is closed and the entrance is restricted. Now about my "but". The prices are exorbitant and the food is from ok to awful. Don't go with the intention to have a contact with the German culture of food. You're not going to find it in there. Either the sausages aren't good as the German ones, or they "invented" something (like a baked potato with some kind of sauce) and say it's "typical german". In the oder hand is the parade really nice and funny to see. It starts around 4pm and goes till 6pm. It's much funnier and "aliver" than the German one. If you're are in to party, you should go with the intention to stay till after midnight, but go as early as you can, because around 8 it starts to get really crowded at the entrance. The tickets you can buy online (I recommend it! ). As I said, I nice place to go if you're in south Brazil at the time, but not necessarily a number one travel destination.
Ps. Sorry for my bad English.

The Oktoberfest is the 2nd world’s German party (the 1st obviously is in Germany)!
You can have awesome German food in the Eisenbahn Restaurant or eat some fast food in the court. Honestly, worths paying the restaurant.
There are 4-5 local beers that are made in the most traditional way, following the international standards for brewing.
I found it crowed on weekends but very safe.
Mind to buy tickets in advance and only in trusted and official dealers!

This was my third time and I got impressed about the organization and infrastructure of the Vila Germanica park. The quality of beers, music, and food were amazing, beautiful people and happiness. A great place for singles and couples. Not so good to have children since there are lots and lots and lots of people all around, specially at nights.

I do suggest you take a look at the official website Oktoberfest Blumenau (there are tabs in English). The Vila where the party takes place is well organised, with plenty of information in English, but it was larger than we expected so I did manage to get a bit lost from my friends for a little while. Also getting a cab there at peak hours was a bit of a challenge from where we were staying (the other side of the river). Get yourself a cab driver and call in advance to arrange a time otherwise you might find yourself sitting around for a while until you get a hold of one. If you go dressed in traditional clothing (half the town is wearing them) you get half a ticket, but there are certain rules (like the length of the socks and so forth). We bought/rented ours before getting to town as the prices in town were averaging 80 to 150 US dollars. It is also worth it to buy your cup in town around XV street before heading out, you have the same options as at the party but they are cheaper. I got the manual of the beers available and the map of the Villa and made myself a little tour plan to taste the ones I was most interested in. If you arrive early around 6pm as soon as the park opens, there are fewer people and shorter lines for food and for the smaller/high interest breweries. The same goes for Thursdays. If you want to go for the musical shows (there are 3 main stages) to dance and meet more people it starts to get crowded around 10-11 pm on Fridays and Saturdays.

The Oktoberfest, which happens in October in Blumenau (Santa Catarina), is the largest festival of German traditions of Latin America. It is one of the celebrations that have emerged in the world similar to the Oktoberfest in Munich, Germany.

Strange "German" party where everything is false : the houses, the way that people are dressed and the music.
Only the beer and the atmosphere is good (for who like Brazilian party).
Oktober Fest is too famous and I hoped to see something more tradicional. Now it became a comercial party where accommodation are really expensive. Too bad...
You can see better the German side of Brazil in Pomerode for example.
