The MARGS is a small museum, although it is the most impostant in the city. The collection is not permanently on show, which is a pity. The temporary exhibits are usually of good quality. The building is not adequated for a museum, but the location is pretty good, in the middle of the Alfandega Square, centrally located..

Such a great museum! Cozy and beautiful. It's worth a visit even because it's close to Santander Cultural, another great spot to visit in Porto Alegre.

I visited this museum twice because I wanted to get the best out of the exhibitions held the days I was in town. Mainly, artwork of the following artists were exhibited: Ernesto Scheffel, Fábio Rheinheimer, Rossini Perez and Léo Dexheimer. In its own style, every collection was really interesting, so that I devoted time in trying to appreciate it as much as possible. Despite a book fair was being held in this area, few people actually were visiting the museum. On its side, the building is fantastic with its architecture. Nice place.

Although MARGS is a landmark of art for more than 60 years, it is in need to attention in order to be renovated and refresh in its permanent collection.
The building itself it is a beautiful example of the architecture from the beginning of the XX century and it was inaugurated in 1914. It has many interesting sculptures as part of the building.
The Museum initiated in 1954 and later on came to occupied this building. MARGS is part of the historical centre of Porto Alegre and it's located in the "Alfândega" square.
It has a café, a bistrô and a gift shop.
The art exhibitions are of good quality. It continues bringing interesting temporary exhibitions. It's certainly worth a visit for those who enjoy art.
Some care going around the area is required, since it's not safe as used to be in the past.
